bought a new unreg car recently..... agreed with the dealer it would be taxed from 1st june, payments not cleared til 30th may, car not being delivered till after 1st june....finally delivered 9th june as agreed.

car got registered 30th may, error on part of dealer I suppose, there was no need to rush.... and taxed for the month of may, now that's efficiency... same day processing by the dvla, as no dealer is going to submit paperwork til the finance is sorted..... I have written to the dvla about getting the tax expiry changed to end may 2015 but I'm getting a cold shoulder..... the receipt for the road tax is dated the 11th june.... where do I stand? a registered car does not have to be taxed, and if the dealer is buying the tax in june, how can they backdate it to may?

A couple of things here.

Firstly don't think for one second it was a simple mistake by the dealer to register the car in May. They have monthly targets from the manufacturer to hit and will register whatever it takes to hit them and get their bonus payments.

Secondly, the first years VED must be paid when the car is registered using the AFRL registration system (the £55 first registration fee is also paid through this system).

You won't get the due date changed, it's due when it's due. Blame the dealer, but it's not down to the DVLA
