I was travelling south on the M1 past Luton and just before the exit for the M25 I was flashed by the new Hadecs 3 camera. I was in the lefthand lane with my cruise control set at an indicated 80mph and there was no speed limit showing on the gantry. Should I be expecting a ticket in the next couple of weeks? I had just been overtaken by someone doing at least 5mph more than me and it didn't flash as they went through.

I guess I will just have to wait and see if I get anything through the post. Unfortunately it is a lease car so I will have to wait longer than 2 weeks.

Cruise control set to 80 through speed cameras?

You're brave. I always slow down to 70 for that whole stretch now. They've killed the enjoyment of it, before the widening it was much more free flowing and now everyone is up and down in speed all the time so I feel for you.

Was that 80mph indicated speed or actual speed (set by sat nav)?

Indicated speed of 80mph will probably be about 77mph [the over-indication is usually about 5% (max legal over-indication is 10% - under-indication is illegal)]

The ACPO prosecution threshold is 10% plus 2mph. In a 70mph limit that equates to 79mph, so yes, you may well be prosecuted if you were actually doing 79mph or more. Sorry.

Let's just hope it was flashing someone else.

Just a thought - is there a flash only setting, set below the actual prosecution level? Do they do this just to put the frighteners on us? I don't know.

I set cruise to 80.

80 in mine (VW) is a Tom-Tom verified 77mph. Allowing for the 10% + 2mph rule, one should be OK.

Apart from the one car that overtook me the road was empty. First time I have ever been through the whole stretch there without the variable speed limit signs being set. This was at 21:30 Sunday evening so I thought I would be ok with the cruise set to a speedo indicated 80mph, my speedo over reads at 30 by 3-4mph so I thought I would be safe.

You probably are - but this 14 days of watching the post is a recurrent nightmare! Fingers crossed!!
