I have a paper licence which I quite like but really ought to change to show my new address sometime. I couldn't find the costs for a photocard licence on the dvla site. Does anybody happen to know how much it will cost? The myspace link I looked at wanted lots of personal data which, frankly I'd rather not share with all and sundry if I don't have to.

According to this it's free if changing address at the same time as upgrading!!!

yes Yet if you haven't moved house it's £20 - it just encourages people who are willing to sail close to the wind to use a good friend's 'accomodation' address for a month or two then switch back. No logic to their approach at all AFAICS.

I've just done this. Confirm it was free, though feel like a novice without my old skool paper licence.

Only took about a week to turn around - you have to send off your paper one for that time.

Thanks for the replies. Am I legal to drive in the meantime? After all it was me who passed my examination, not my house.

Yes. It would be utterly insane if you couldn't. Many people (e.g. sales reps) have to drive for a living.
If you have a current passport do it online (your mug shot is captured automatically).
Tip: keep your existing document until the new licence turns up.

Yes, I'll make a copy. It's a pink paper item and I'm quite fond of it :-)

For the sake of twenty quid? - Is it really worth the effort?
