Bought an Australian car in the UK in the Summer. It's unregistered. Car is 10 years old next year so can avoid IVA and just register. My problem is that it needs an original registration document from Australia to register in the UK. For one reason or another I am struggling to get hold of one. - the UK owner never registered it in Australia himself.

So I am a bit stuck......anyway around the process? Any help or advice would be welcome.

Thanks

You will need proof of UK tax and duty's being paid
Proof of ownership
And proof of age say a letter from manufacturer or owners club
You might find its been a tourist temporary import
And not had any tax paid!! Hence the lack of paperwork!

Hope this helps

From memory the registration document in NSW for example is just a till receipt, Car registration in most states works in a similar way to uk road tax i.e. its renewed each year.

When I imported a mid 60s Isuzu from NSW a couple of years ago, I too needed paperwork. I emailed the Dept out there, explaining what was required and they confirmed registration by return, posting me out the official paperwork a few days later.

Really helpful, no charge (although I suspect there would have been for a local).

If you get stuck , I'll look them up for you, see if I can find the point of contact.

so do you know if it was registered in Aus? If so, then I guess you will need to get docs from there. Did you know you didn't have the proof of title when you brought it over?

Incorrect. Rego is the equivalent of our RFL but with statutory 3rd party insurance included. Thats what you are thinking of. You would still have a Log book.

With my previous 2 cars I literally have a print out from the RTA with the rego sticker attached to the bottom, (Might be different now)
