A mate wanted to try out my bike today and he got pulled by police for non conforming number plate, (he is insured) he has been given a pink copy and said the fine would be £100 the slip has my mates name on it but no where does it say about a £100 fine
Will my freind get the fine or the owner of the vehicle or even both ? Has anyone here had a pull a non conforming plate and what is the usual way they go about it, do I just wait for a letter ?

Your friend will get the fine
It is the drivers responsibility to ensure the car/bike is legal.

But as a friend and owner of the bike, I would kind of expect you to atleast contribute something, unless of course he knew it wasn't legal in which case he knew the risk.

Is the usual fine for the offence £100 ? It don't mention any fine cost on the slip, I would do the gentlemanly thing smile

Yes. The fine for non/endorsable fines recently got raised. Used to be 60, now it's 100 for most offences.

Hint, change the plate = zero fines.

If plod gave everyone a bit of leeway everyone would feel like they could break the law in whatever way they wanted. Someone will receive no leeway at some stage and there is no pity in that, just bad luck and a fact of life.

I think yes and no. Years ago I was pulled for a driving offence, plod gave me a chat, and sent me in my way, I paid more attention to my driving afterwards that.

If I had got a,ticket, I would have got all pisssed off and probably het about it.

But some will ignore their chance and drive as they always did.

I knew the plate was non conforming its a 5 digit plate all in a row on a rectangular plate rather than a squarish plate with two digits at the top and three underneath, the plate means nothing to me and come with the bike, that's not an excuse I I know, just should have changed it to one more suitable.

The police dont like the small single line plates, which in fairness are mostly totally unreadable. You can often get away with a *slightly* smaller plate without drawing too much attention to it, keep it square and sensible and you are normally ok.

It's not merely that the police don't like that layout.
The relevant legislation specifically prohibits its use on a bike.

Looking at the 2nd legislation where would mine sit in the list? S7 DCK looks like 1b

If Sussex work the same as us, you'll hear from them within 2 weeks. We don't issue fixed penalty tickets anymore, we issue referral notices and then someone in an office does the rest.
