Last night I was on a plane & the guy behind me had a row with his wife & smacked her a couple of times with a magazine. The cabin crew saw it & some nice men in blue uniforms met the plane on arrival.

I had to stay behind on the plane & give statements to the nice men about what had happened.

What's the 'going rate' for naughtiness of this nature?

I bet noone would have batted an eyelid if it happened the other way.

No, this was pretty nasty rather than just a playful smack. The language was also unacceptable.

My point still stands.

It'll depend what they were arested for. Endangering the plane and passengers is a serious offence.
Other offences to consider will depend on whether she wants him charged with the assault or not.

Threats and a couple of hefty smacks with a heavy magazine followed by a bad attitude to the crew "Call the police, I'm not bothered"

IMHO so is being an ahole who slaps & abuses his Mrs, doubly so in public.

She came across as wanting it played down, presumably for fear of future reprisals. I heard one BiB telling the other he's being locked up, presumably for a night or so, but was curious about the longer term consequences.

So does mine- if a woman had behaved that badly I could see a similar outcome. Whilst I see your meaning about women getting away with a great deal more, this was totally out of order rather than being a one-sided interpretation of acceptable behaviour.

Who knows how it is playing out? Ultimately, he could be charged with the aviation offence although I suspect it would be more likely to procees as a common assault. He could get a caution. If he's eligible, he my be charged and detained for court. Or charges and bailed. Or bailed for enquiries or CPS advice. Or released without charge. Who knows? If it's going to court and you're being called as a witness you'll probably get a letter and a phone call advising you.

Yep this, without knowing what the 'previous' of the chap is, level of any recorded injury and account from her it could be any of he above.

He seems like a prize prick though and fair play for sticking about and giving a few lines to the old bill.

So you did nothing... And then wrote your statement when the police were there. You've then come onto the internet to tell people about it under the pretence of finding out what the likely punishment is - but in reality actually wanting a pat on the back. You seem like a bit of a coward to me.

No one should be made to live in fear. No one. However for anyone to just sit there and then write his report and come on the internet and be smug about it to me is pathetic. Personally if I feel strongly about something I do something - but then I don't live my life like a scared sheep.

Plenty of people get properly battered getting involved in someone elses domestic. The majority of them result in the aggressor and the victim turning on the good samaritan. Throw into the mix that you are on a plane with hardly any room and no facility to remove yourself from the situation I think your comments are a bit harsh.

A couple of slaps with a magazine although out of order are hardly having a sustained violent attack, had he been holding her down smashing her teeth out then I'm sure things would have been different.

You could be a black belt double hard bd but Rovinghawk might not have been comfortable dealing with the bloke or wasn't in the position to do so.

Jesus christ. That was also an unnecessary post. (As is this one ad infinitum).

Why you felt he need to tell the OP what a turkey he was and what a decisive action taker you would have been, meanwhile contriving OP to be somewhat less that you I'm really not sure.

Bravo, monsieur. Bravo indeed.

Maybe I am being harsh. It's more than possible. Generally I take the view that people should stand up to things that they see as wrong. But like you said not everyone is me, however I can assure you I'm neither hard or a black belt in anything other than overeating. I'm pretty sure Ravinghawk could give me a hiding right now.

I also think that there are some fair points which will be overlooked - if the women had swore at the husband when tired and stressed coming home and slapped him with a magazine would the police have been called or would anyone stay to write a statement. Personally I really don't like bullies.

That being said - Rovinghawk if my comments are out of order and offensive to you I apologise. I've recently started a new bodybuilding supplement which is making me pretty sharp with people, and it might be me acting like the bully. So I'm going to turn my laptop off and watch the NFL. Hope you had a good trip.

FYI the steward was about 3 feet away when it happened & he intervened. Also I offered to help if he needed & he declined, preferring to quieten things down, move the lady to another seat & have the prat arrested rather than escalating the situation. It's not my place to overrule this & get in a fight.

I'm actually quite a big guy with a decent martial arts education (it's a company director thing, you know?)but my primary concern was getting between the prat & the girl I was with. Also I don't need to get arrested due to the inevitable misunderstanding which would follow.

We might disagree on a great many things but not on what's required in this case.

Cant wait till your "what will I get for smacking a bloke who tooted me in a road rage" thread.

If you know these "supplements" (been there btw) are doing this, then either stop them or realise what the implications are before making any action that you might regret....again.

?!

Maybe "supplements" were the reason for the bloke attacking his missus?

Yep, perhaps too many captain mood swing pre workout tablets.
