Does anyone know if there are any there yet or if there are, are they active? I visited Manchester Airport Sunday with a mate from Lincolnshire (avoiding snakes pass as it was closed) and he may have been a bit spirited at one point.

SPECS @ 50mph for the managed motorway works between M62 about J19 IIRC all the way round the north and western sides of the M60 to J7/8 I think.

One 50mph SPECS on the south-eastern side of the M60 at Bredbury.

Well signposted.

The whole of the roadwork section from Oldham /Rochdale to Sale is a 50 limit with average speed cameras all the way through. They are bright yellow though so hardly stealthy. Not sure if they're active though. There was a problem with the TRO IIRC so they weren't working pre-Christmas.

Personally I always err on the cautious side and assume they are operative, even if they might not be. Better to be safe than sorry.

I think with the rollout of "smart" motorways, and big brother a lot of the fun factor has gone out of driving, and I can't see it getting better anytime soon....

I know it's not very "PH" but I do think a lot (not all) speed limits are there for a purpose.

Exceed them at your peril.

I just sit there at an indicated 60 when traffic allows, at peak time I'm lucky to average 5moh through them.

The latest I can recall reading was that the M60 "smart motorway upgrade roadworks" SPECS cameras would be going live for enforcement on 22 January, this was reported in the Rochdale Observer around 10 January.

They've been working for several months now, but (as mentioned upthread) the initial TRO was incorrect (as written by the HA) and GMP were not prepared to enforce using that TRO on the advice of a QC who suggested it be rewritten.

As an aside, "stealth cameras" are another topic entirely wink .

Apparently stealth cameras are going in when the works are complete.

PS I know they're different I pointed out to the OP that his worry over stealth cameras is a bit misplaced when there are bright yellow average speed cameras on the whole stretch.

That's a worrying statement. You aren't voting for a president, we don't have one of those. You are voting for a party, with which you should be broadly in agreement with the majority of their policies. Frustrates the hell out of me when people say "I'm not voting for Cameron" unless you are in his constituency then you aren't voting for him no matter which party you vote for. Bloody New Labour, El Presidente Blair and their dumbing down of everything, not to mention these effing Leader's debates, load of US styled garbage.

Not sure why you think any of the parties will be calling quits on the "war against motorists" that sadly isn't going to happen.

There is and was no problem with the TRO the BIB were just not happy with it. So preferred not too enforce it.
