Im on the road as a passenger. Car was stationary, stopped in traffic on a two way (one lane each way) road.

Car from behind overtakes all stationary traffic, pulls into oncoming lane to reach junction ahead of stationary traffic and and turns left, saving a bit of time.

Knocked our offside wing mirror, hard enough to snap his own in flush against his/her car.

He/she was aware of the accident as driver indicated after turning left, slowed to an almost stop, then drove off.

Car is insured (I got the plate) - Not sure if the wing mirror of the (cheap and old) car im in is damaged or not. Looks ok from the inside. I'll look once the car stops.

If scratched (and indeed if not scratched) what would you do, phone it through or let the driver go if there are no scratches?

Not overly impressed with driver for failing to stop TBH.

If it was my car (old, parts easily available) and I was driving I would be annoyed but carry on with my life. If the mirror had cosmetic damage I would consider buying a new one on ebay but probably just live with it forever.

Insurance claim for a mirror seems unnecessary aggro to me unless they are very expensive to replace or the car is valuable/new/immaculate.

What would the point of doing anything about it for the sake of a scratched mirror on an old banger?
All you'd be doing wasting lots of peoples time (including yours).

Must be an old car to have a wing mirror. Odds of meeting another one are two low to worry about.

Well if you want to really teach them a lesson, and by their driving they need one! The. Report to the police for failing to stop and set one of those non fault accident types on the case

The ML doesn't gave wing mirrors. As said, it must be very old to have them so not worth bothering about unless it's a classic.

All to common an occurrence these days, sat in queue some bloke from a mile back pulls out onto wrong side of road to past the queue to make a turn. Seen so many near misses. Sadly I think standards are dropping.
