From a comment I made in http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

A lot of places sell "breakdown" insurance as an extra with pre owned/second hand cars. Often it's added tp the purchase price and adds a bit of security in the event of something going wrong.
Two points(OR MORE ,that might come out of this) our legal minds might like to comment on .
1) In agreeing to take this are buyers giving away some of their rights.
2) Are sellers passing on their responsibilities to some warranty cover with the buyer paying for the privilege?

Car dealers can't abrogate their responsibilities under SOGA by supplying you with a warranty. Think of the warranty as a 'top up' giving you greater protection rather than a replacement for your SOGA rights/

Not at all,e but the age of the car would have bearing on it if you bought a 10 year old runabout, you may get say 3 months warranty from the dealer and this unlikely to include recovery, nor would it be unreasonable not to include it, so it would be an add on that could reasonably be charged for.

Most newer cars have a certain period of recovery as part of the deal, so be careful you don't pay for something you already have, my Mrs 6 month old Qashqai has 3 years recovery!

1) No.
2) No.

Your comment in the other thread was somewhat strange.
