Hey guys

Im from Scotland (just out of Glasgow) so this might be a known thing down south but it is beyond me. So I was driving my mates van down in London (Houndslow i think when this occured). We picked up a trailer and i was nominated to drive for him since i have C+E and we where picking up a bike with a trailer down there. (I dont think it was in excess of 750kg but he drove us down i drove us back just to be safe).

I regretably didn't get any pictures of the van or trailer but the trailer was like new, we checked the lightbar before we left and it was fully functional, not a lick of rust on it and the tyres where decent (ChingChong DitchFinders "Trailer Editions" but fine nonetheless) the van was a 18ish year old Mercedes Sprinter, bit scruffy looking but passes its MOTs with little work. However it does have a tendancy to smoke badly well in traffic which i think may have prompted this.

So i've been driving in traffic for about 45minutes by this point it was about 2PM and as im stopped at a light some bloke on a bicycle with a hi-vis chaps on the window. I wound the window down and the guy informs me he is a member RoadSafe London and he is reporting our registration as our vehicle and load are a danger to him and other road users. I ask him what he's talking about and he just says he will be posting his evidence to roadsafe London that night and he cycles off. I figured our trailer had fallen apart or something so I popped my hazards on and pulled aside to give it a check to find it was completely fine.

I mean do I have anything to worry about? WTF even is this organisation is it a part of the MET police? All google says is that it is a reporting service. Anywho the van and trailer got driven all the way back to Glasgow that day with no issue so evidently the vehicle and load wasn't much of a danger. Btw he did have one of those helmet cams on so I have no doubt that he has evidence of whatever it is that offended him.

TLDR: Nob on a bicycle says he's reporting me to the London dibble for my st van, do I have anything to worry about?

Diesel Sprinter? Maybe he was going to report you for being in the LEZ in a smokey van but they'll already know anyway.

My money is on Dammit from the 'pedal powered', 'all vehicles are trying to kill cyclists(read trucks)' biggrin

I'd guess the OP didn't see the cyclist and nearly knocked him off his bike.

M8. I'm in a beat up old van other road users will get out the way! Hehe. But aye I pulled up in a taxi rank(many kittens murdered) and popped the hazards on and just jumped out for a 2 minute once over.

I doubt I knocked him off and it was stop start <15mph traffic and I was stuck in 1 lane. Unless of course if he rode in to the back of my trailer/van without my knowing so which would be pretty typical for a cyclist but I reckon he probably would've said something about that.

Anywho I just re-read the link posted (I found it in google but i think i missread part of it)

"Your information will be used to improve the Intelligence picture about individuals and/or locations. It may assist us to effectively resolve the issue that you have raised."

So essentially it means nothing unless my vehicle is already involved in a crime at the time? Nothing to worry about then eh?

What I don't get is the way these throbbers feel the need to tell you what they're going to do. Report it, whatever, what do they gain by potentially provoking a confrontation? Stupid, self important little sts.

The thing is, if they don't speak to people like this, they probably have very little social contact, if any at all. Sad fks.

All it is is a method of reporting things - nothing happens bar the statistics are compiled.

In some extreme cases you might get a letter through the post, but that's unusual.

Which is probably why the cyclist decided to tell you about it, tbh, as the coppers probably won't.

A lot of the people who run cameras will post the footage to YouTube along with some comments - so Googling your plate might bring up the footage of your perceived infraction.

If you were driving very poorly you might get something from the law, but it won't actually have any weight - it'll just be a "try to be more considerate in future".
