Good afternoon PHers, I have a question regarding registering a Triumph TR4A restoration project. I live in Thailand and eventually want to import a TR from the UK to here. To do this more simply ( read Cheaply!) I am going to register it in the name of a friend who is Thai but lives in the UK. She then has to keep it in the UK for 18 months before applying for a import permit to Thailand. The car will be a POS with most of the oily bits done in the UK but I will bet the body done here. The question is: Can I register a restoration project (ie not MOT etc)?

Any help or advice from SP&L chaps most welcome and thanks in advance. Nick

You can't, because you haven't got a UK address... But, yes, your friend can. Just V5C into her name, then SORN it. That's it.

Presumably you're trying to evade the import duties that would be payable if you just got the car straight to Thailand.

Not sure how it works there, but here the car would need to be part of a repatriation package to be exempt.

Hi all. Correct it is to avoid the problems importing to Thailand. Thai citizen can but must own the car for three years after importation to avoid problems. Just want a TR over here. Many thankns for the advice
