Hi all,
I have a query that hopefully someone could help me with...
Bought a car for my Girlfriend from a big name Ford dealer in Mid January (around 3 weeks ago now). The garage is 200 miles or so away from where I live, I bought the car from there as was the spec/mileage she wanted and a reasonable price compared to up here in Aberdeen.
Car is 2012 Reg with 22k miles on the clock so average really. Service stamp was put in a day before we picked it up. GF has only started using the car and ive only manage to clean it at the weekend and have found dome issues.
Main one is the brakes shudder really bad under light or heavy braking so seems to me they are warped and feeling the disks they seem quite low.
Also there appears to be some light damage in 2 areas on the front bumper (this wasn't noticed when picked up as to be honest it's one of those marks you wouldn't really notice it unless you looked for it) but enough of a mark that it seems it's been bashed. Now I know it wasn't myself or my girlfriend as we have done minimal miles since we picked it up.
Have spoken to dealer and they have said book it in for a service and we'll look at it, I explained I live 200miles away (work offshore) and I don't trust the cars brakes for the 200 mile journey. They stated it HAS to be their garage as that's where it was sold.
Ive asked if I can get an independent report done at another Ford garage as it's un unfeasible to take the car back to where I bought it, and if issues are found how long will repairs take etc..

Sorry that's a bit of a long one but hopefully covers the issues/areas I have. But are they correct that I have to take it back to them?? Is there no other options?

Thanks

Pretty sure you have to give them a couple of chances to rectify it before you can get someone else involved.

Someone qualified will be along shortly to confirm that. smile

a: Scrapes and bumps : I think you have to live with that, and learn to inspect the car better if that sort of thing is an issue for you.

b: Brakes juddering: 90% odds that will be pads or discs, neither covered by warranty as they're consumables. However, discs shouldn't need doing at that sort of mileage. I'd get it looked at by a local Ford dealer, who should be able to tell you whats wrong and give an estimate. THEN haggle for the selling garage to fund some of that if it isn't covered under the approved used warranty.

That's the way to go. Perhaps the brakes are a little rusted from the car being sat for a while, might need a few good hard applications to clean them up a bit.

When you say they "seem low" ? How on earth can you tell that without measuring them?! Get the brakes looked at by someone local. They're consumables anyway so aren't covered by warranty. Even if they do need replacing it isn't expensive.

as above give it a few emergency stops on a clear road and your judder may well disappear - happened to my daughters 107 with only 7000miles on it after being left for a couple of weeks undriven.

I thought it was really quite hard to warp discs?

I can't find the post I was looking for, but this seems like a reasonable summary:
