Car towed while out of the country
Discussion
The local council in London have towed my car while I'm out of the UK.
I was legally (at the time) parked in a resident permit bay last week and don't remember any sign notifying of a suspension being up.
I presume I'll be issued a PCN on my return, but does anyone know if I will be able to dispute this? I'm away for another 6 days yet and according to the council website they charge £40/day plus £200 release fee!

The PCN is the least of your problems. You need to sort this out pdq!I was legally (at the time) parked in a resident permit bay last week and don't remember any sign notifying of a suspension being up.

Even if they don't destroy it you may find it has been disposed of another way.
IIRC you only have 14 days from it being lifted.

Someone reported my car abandoned when it was parked outside my house, taxed, MOT'ed and Insured.
It had broken down so had sat there for a few weeks as I was serving in the RN so away during the week. I arrived home one friday, to find a notice stuck on it saying it would be towed and crushed on the monday. I rang the council to point out it was taxed and insured, but they said it would be towed regardless if it was in the same spot!!!!

I'd have been tempted to take Monday off and lay in wait... How the hell can they think they've got the authority to touch a legally parked car is beyond me! Unless it's causing an obstruction, in which case they should still try to contact the owner first...Someone reported my car abandoned when it was parked outside my house, taxed, MOT'ed and Insured.

Glad I've got a drive.
Worlds gone mad
There was an taxed car outside our place that had been in a accident, had no screen at the front, no insurance or mot but had tax
Took an age to get it moved, council didn't want to touch it as it was taxed and the police were useless
The council said they could write a letter to the owner eventually
Wasn't until we reported children playin in it and got the local mp involved that it eventually got removed
Took about 4 weeks

I dont know how this works but I wouldnt pay them a penny. If I am legally parked and travelled away/abroad before a notice was put up, I would expect the council to release my car to me without any charge or penalty on my return as long as I can prove I was away/abroad at the time the notice was put up.
