Hi guys,
I don't know whether this is the correct place to post this but thought i'd like to ask if anyone had had this happen to them ?
I went into my local Wickes store in Orpington Kent, at the back they have a parking area set out for Wickes customers, so i parked in one of there bays, you then ring the back door bell of the store, and one of the staff let you in.
I spent close on half hour looking at the display kitchens as i was looking to fit my house out with a new one including appliances ect.
On the way out i picked up a brochure so that i could go home make a final decision as to what i wanted, after all we're talking 8-10k here so quite a lot of money.
One week later i got a letter through my door, with a charge notice that i was to be fined 100 pounds for parking on the land !! i couldn't believe it !
I spent all day yesterday trying to contact Wickes head office, who are basically useless ! and they are saying its nothing to do with them but that i should contact a company called G24 who manage there parking,i've also contact the store in question, and they say they can't remember me being in there so there's not a lot they can do, just wondered if this has happened to anyone else ?

What a weird carpark. Most of the bays are hatched in yellow meaning 'do not use'. Why not?
Do the signs refer to all the spaces? Anyway, it seems deceptive to me because you wouldn't reasonably expect parking outside a major chain to be controlled like that. But if it's valid, you've been tucked up, bad luck. And no doubt many of their other customers too.

If you zoom on the link pic above, it shows an older view from when that store was a Blockbusters. It had signs noting which spaces were for which store. Now if the hatchings mean anything it'll be on the signs. Do the signs refer to all the spaces? OP, what were the terms of parking?
It really doesn't matter, bays notices, whatever. It's not enforceable. Do not pay.

I've been back today to suss the car park out.
The bay where i parked clearly states "Wickes customer parking" i went back into the shop and they now tell me that if you come into the store to browse/buy a kitchen then you should give them your registration number if you've parked in the wickes parking bays, very weird in my opinion.
Imagine one of the big Homebase doing this, they would have a queue a mile long with people telling there reg numbers !!
And yes, the google shot quoted is of an old Blockbusters there with different parking arrangements, although the Wickes sign is up, the bays rant painted in outside Wickes

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure the law changed on this and it is enforceable. Ignore it at your peril. http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=8558...

You need to post solid evidence , ideally. Otherwise you're worse than the person who has posted contrary to you above and provided a link for the OP to read up on!TheLordJohn said:

It's not an unusual arrangement. What do the signs say? If they are silent as regards the in-store notification requirement you need to speak to the local manager and ask why this wasn't brought to your attention (forget Head Office for now: they are about as much use as a chocolate teapot: if the local manager fails to act then write directly to Wickes CEO, Simon King - don't bother with so-called Customer Services). If Wickes are the contracting party with G24 it is utter nonsense that they have no clout. Make it very clear that you will not even consider placing an order worth £8-10K with them on account of G24's 'invoice' - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php...The bay where i parked clearly states "Wickes customer parking" i went back into the shop and they now tell me that if you come into the store to browse/buy a kitchen then you should give them your registration number if you've parked in the wickes parking bays, very weird in my opinion.
If they still won't budge on the issue there is help available on pepipoo and MSE on the correct process to follow in seeing off this PPC. Act before you start getting letters from their tame DCA.
Alternatively, if you do decide to do business with Wickes ask for a £150 discount. This will cover the cost of settling G24's invoice plus compensation for all the grief in dealing with their spurious demand. There is more than one way to skin a cat...

Like I said I'm no expert, it was a warning to the OP not to accept the one persons insistence that you should ignore it.The OP just needs to spend 5 minutes reading back old threads in Speed, Plod and the Law, it's absolutely littered with similar threads, and has some people who know what they're talking about (and plenty who don't like me).

Don't ignore it and don't panic. Get over to pepipoo as others have said, write them a letter as advised from there from folks with actual legal knowledge (looking at replies here doesn't help, mostly)
Not being funny but get your letter proof read to pick up mistakes like using "there" where you mean "their", the letter should really be grammatically correct.
But really don't panic, it's unlikely in my view and contract is valid but those guys will scrutinise the parking invoice and advise.
