Just wanted to give a quick good news piece as we're all very quick to jump on the poor experiences with BIB but rarely the good ones.
Had a Nissan Leaf on extended test drive last week and managed to run out of juice on the A303 near South Petherton during commuter period. Was incorrectly advised by the dealer that it had an emergency 10 miles once the meter got to empty, so would easily get home which was a mile away. Turns out this was hollocks and cue me stood at the side of the A303 trying to slow down traffic to avoid rear ending the car. Ultimately my fault as I was in control of the vehicle, but no condescending chat from BIB that came to my aid. Officer stayed with me for over an hour whilst Nissan UK sorted out recovery, even ripped into me a few times about being no stranger to recovery trucks owing a TVR etc.
Anyway, at the end, he even gave me a lift, with my dog and two kiddie seats to my house once recovery came. Superb chap, very friendly and I feel for you guys with the amount of cutbacks across the force yet still the same areas expected covering; it’s amazing how you all keep it together.

Are you going to buy the Leaf?
Lol, bought two of them! Even though I ran out of "letrik" I was so impressed with the car that I chopped both family hacks for Leafs, the way I see it is £250pm for fuel to commute 30 & 20 miles a day for each of us, or £30pm for the Leafs, it was a no brainer. If I know what the range is, I can work around that, its only when youre fed duff info that it leads you to looking like a prat at the side of the road! Saying that, Ive been sat with the Cerbera with an empty tank as well, so perhaps its in my blood!

£250p/m for a commute but £300 p/m to e-on on the house bill.If I know what the range is, I can work around that, its only when youre fed duff info that it leads you to looking like a prat at the side of the road! They learn how you drive and can be wildly inaccurate if someone else has been driving it for a while. Being winterish the range on a leaf is about 10 yards anyway as the heater would be on

Is the tax payer (many of whom can't afford new cars) still shelling out £5000 apiece for yours?

I trust you have taken into account other major expenses of vehicle ownership! Depreciation?

Yes, you're quite right. False economy in as much as the cars are on a PCP (lease) so there is the monthly payment. Is the tax payer (many of whom can't afford new cars) still shelling out £5000 apiece for yours?

Gov still give £5k per car, Nissan trying to push them out with a further £3200 from them and the obligatory dealer bits and pieces.
I've written off the deposit I've paid based on the fact they'll never be worth the final balloon payment owed, but totting up the costs of both against the weekly hacks including insurance/VED etc. We'll be about £300pm better off for the duration, then if we're happy, we'll do the same come the end of the term. Can't see the point in buying these days (Well apart from the Cerb of course!)
