Hi
I spilt with my partner 18 months ago. When I lived with her (she owns the property) I had a large garage built.

Since we split I have had the remote fob for the door and could use the garage when ever I liked.

We have a 6 year old daughter together and over the past few weeks communication between me and the ex has broken down.

She has now asked for the fob back.

In the garage I have a nearly finished MK1 Golf project and a lot of tools.

I think I know the answer already, but....

Do I have any rights at all to access my belongings?

I do not have another garage or anywhere that I could store or work on the car. If I go round there in effect I am trespassing.

Cheers

You say she asked for the fob back, but has she asked you to remove the car and tools?

It may be that she doesn't want you just pitching up whenever you feel like it, and wants you to arrange times that you can go round, or perhaps she wants you to pay some rent on the free storage facility that you've been enjoying.

I don't think you have any "rights" it's her property and I'm assuming you have no rental agreement for the garage. Try offering her some cash to keep your stuff there.

Arrange somewhere else to keep your vehicle and stuff, but yeah, you need to get it outta there.

Advise her when you'll be moving everything and tell her you will arrange specialist cleaning of any oil or anything that may have been spilt. In reality, the garage may be spotless, but makes you look like you're doing the right thing etc.. That way she may be more accommodating to let you in and get your stuff out

You are correct.

I have just been rocking up a couple of times a week to work on the project.
The garage is about 50m away from the house.

The rental idea could be a good idea as I know she is hard up.

In the text it said 'feel free to arrange transportation or I will remove in due course myself....'

You surely expected this. You're either with her or you're not and she can hardly get a new life going with you popping round when it suits you. If there's a new bloke on the scene you can be certain he will have asked for the current cosy arrangements to be terminated sharpish. I don't think you have any rights at all based on what you've said so I think it would be interests to comply asap. You don't want to end up with the car being dumped in the road.

Everything this Dude said maybe over the last 18 months 1 or other of you thought that there was a chance of resuming the relationship, the other party meets some one else and.... You're at where you are at.
Don't be too upset if you was the party who thought you could get it on again move on, the world is your lobster and all that other stuff I have no doubt you have heard a zillion times. I always tell myself that the world is a big pond and I have an awesome fishing rod 😁

Can't say I blame you. Not a nice place to be. I think your best bet is to be cringingly nice about it all. It's your best hope of getting it done in a reasonable timescale and without major hassle. Anything that can be interpreted as obstructiveness will only end badly. Can you appeal to her better nature and explain that it will take you up to a month to get alternative space and promise the stuff will be gone by then? And in the meantime, you won't be popping round. That should pacify her and anyone in the background and give you time to get something sorted out. Good luck.

If you need emergency storage then drop me a pm. I'm based in Aylesbury which is not disastrously far and I have some space at work. Company next door sells Mk1 golf parts for restoration as well lol
