For some time now posters on here and in the real World have been talking about situations where they have received fixed penalty notices and the like which are disputed.

Practicalities of life fall into place and it is decided that the most expedient way forward is accept the fine and get on with life, even if you are fairly certain that by investing days of your life and not a little of your own money you would be found innocent.

You'll be pleased to know that this is no longer a question that only really faces the motorist:-

It is one reason why I can not vote Tory, they seem to feel the court system is simply another form of revenue generation, and that is not justice.

As a (so far) life long Tory voter I am having real difficulty with this.

Vote for one mob and they seem hell bent of destroying our court system (that's what you get when you have a government full of barristers and solicitors who couldn't hack it in practice).

Vote for the other mob and they'll destroy our economy (again, for the 4th time) and likely erode the court system.

Hell yesterday we had the SC have to remind the executive that they are accountable and can't just withhold information because it is inconvenient, in the face of a court order to produce it. (Even if I do believe that those letters should be private!)

There is no justice in the court system, only the law.

And what if you please not guilty and you win?

Will the crown be paying you £1200 for wasting your time? Call it an innocent-party surcharge.

Of course bloody not.

You and me both. But I regret that what the current shower of s**e have done to what stands for justice in this country is a step too far. Judicial Review is to me a fundamental aspect of our society. The criminal justice system even more so, and when criminal barristers are leaving (I wonder how many innocents will be wrongly jailed) and the punishment for having the audacity of putting the state to proof is to be "fined" is simply too much for me to stomach.
