UK Law covering 6th forms
Discussion
My local council is attempting to push through reforms that will close the counties school based 6th forms, and push everyone to the existing college, which currently caters for A-Levels.
Though this to me seems unethical, is it in fact legal?
I'm unsure as to where to look - if anyone can give me some pointers..
Thanks

I can't help you with your specific query, but I have also mused that since the law changed so now requiring kids to move onto further education (excepting apprenticeships), parents are legally bound to pay the transport cost of getting your kids to the sixth form of choice in the next town.
In my case the annual bus fare is over £600. My kid goes to the same sixth form that I went to as a kid, but in my case a coach was laid on daily for free, as there was no sixth form option in our home town.
I'm not bleating, but this must cause great difficulty for some.
My kid's also obviously learnt man-maths in his first year of 6th form, as he argues that I should contribute £600 towards him buying his first car, so he doesn't need the bus next year. I take his point...

not sure what is wrong with that (from a legal perspective)
I don't think that the legislation requiring children to remain in education until 18 requires a Local Authority to deliver it in a particular format...
also don't see how they will remove all sixth forms as so many schools now have their own control - academies / free schools / independent / etc.

The county does have one fee paying / outside of council funding school, and it looks like the options are basically go to 6th form college or pay up to go there (or elsewhere outside the county, of course).I don't think that the legislation requiring children to remain in education until 18 requires a Local Authority to deliver it in a particular format...

The whole process / consultation has been a sham / farce but I don't want to go into that... There has been so much smoke and mirrors / deviousness about the consultation process I just wondered about the legal standpoint.

Can't fault his logic.

Which county is it? I'd be astonished if there was only one secondary in an entire county that is outside LA control (unless it's a very small county).
Edit: OK scrap that, I'm guessing from your profile you're in Wales - different system completely from England.
