A speeding case at Basingstoke magistrate. I pleaded guilty by post and sent in all the paperwork.

Is there some way of finding out my fine/punishment on line?

I had mine there last month. Though they were very reasonable.
I don't think you can find out online. Phone the court after the case is heard?

I pleaded by post but also went in person as well.

Wait for a letter, or phone the court and ask.

From experience, call them.

I was stopped for 104 in a 70, had a summons through asking how I plead and that I can plead by post if I want which I did. Heard nothing more for months.

For some reason on a Friday, I just decided to call the court to find out about it (with the vague hope they had lost everything and it had been dropped, lol) but only to find that I was in court on the Monday!!!!

I asked them how they had told me? Did they send a letter out? No they didn't - no letter or nothing recorded on their system but I was supposed to be telepathic. They did go on to say they 'may have' asked the local plod to deliver it by hand but they may have lost it or forgotten. Great. So basically, If I hadn't called the court that day i would have had an arrest warrant on my name!!!

Basically wrong. Not for speeding.

The summons has the date on it you will appear in court, if you plead guilty by post it just goes ahead on that day. If you plead not guilty then you usually appear in person and a new date is set.

Requisition or summons. Rookie error to attend court for a NG plea. It's 2015. Email.

How do you know what goes on if you are not there. Would you not want to hear it all first hand or would you put trust in the court system not fo fk it up?

Quite easily, they decide you are guilty there and then and then "loose" the paperwork. I think you over estimate them.

Wrong. I always call to check the "paperwork" is on file - usually first thing the same day as the hearing.

I'm not stupid enough to travel and wait three hours for a 2 minute ajournment. Feel free though, your choice.

Fortunately the court isn't far away for me, hence I always attend even for a not guilty plea -

It helped the other day, as the Police (who do the prosecuting here in NZ) claimed to have lost the paperwork - so case withdrawn.

The potential fine was 15 pounds (56k in a 50 limit), with 65 pounds court costs.

(Not me by the way, business partner - Police are trying prosecute me for 55 in a 50 through the same speed camera)

It may be wrong for E&W, but his profile suggests it may have been in Scotland. If this was the case then there is every chance that an apprehension warrant would be issued for failing to appear in relation to a speeding offence.
