If stopped by the police do i still have 7 days to take my licence and car papers to a police station of my choice.?
Why is my licence still not a little red book?

Was once stopped with my mate driving and he was given a producer.

The police said "Please present your documents at a police station of your choice"

Mate responded "Do you have one you could recommend?"

Police office thought he was taking the piss and got a little shirty, but my mate was serious. I was doubled up in the passenger seat.

You have seven days to produce starting from midnight on the day of issue.

If they haven't been able to verify them over the radio.

But if the "car papers" includes insurance not on MID, you're going to have to do some very convincing talking to get them down to a producer.

It's rare to get a producer these days, as most of the time it can be checked at the roadside. I issued one last month and it's come back to bite me!

The midnight before the event, or the midnight after?

My wife got a producer for 'No Insurance' not long ago. Not showing up on MID when she was stopped and they couldn't find any details matching her name.
We'd recently got married and then got her a new car - the insurance company hadn't updated MID with the new car details and her married name. 5 minutes in the local police station with the paperwork and all was well again and the insurance Co got a stern talking to from her as well.

Even if we can verify them over the radio, if points need to be added and you don't have your license on you (or in the past the paper part) you would have to take a trip to the station.

noticed the OP location. Perhaps he's been out of UK for a loooong time, but last time I had a red book for my licence was a few years after I passed my test, a few years after licences were engraved on tablets of stone.
