The original 'number plate' for a 1970 Porsche 911S is a black adhesive one on the front slope below the Porsche crest, I had to get a replacement after a respray an had to get one from a firm in Eire as no local plate maker said they could make one.
I can find no information about how ANPR response to these plates. Old racing/sport Jags used to paint a square 'plate' on the front wing.
A policeman has no trouble reading from 25yds, how about ANPR?
Why is my driving licence not a little red book anymore.

Being invisible to ANPR is not a hindrance. As long as the car passes MOT then all's good.

ANPR has no trouble reading black & silver plates. It struggles with very elaborate itallics and screws in the wrong places, i.e. a black screw in the middle of an 'O' might be read as a 'B'.

It reads the names on the sides of commercial vehicles, so it will have no issue at all!

Either that, or OP is suffering from memory problems ,at the least( or been out of the country longer than he/can remember ). I can remember when my little red book was changed into a paper document ( enclosed in a plastic holder) .And that was long before I became follicly challenged.

The anger at the abolition of the red book licence, it's replacement by a card that looks just like my Croatian residents ID card, is just a rant against how everything is getting more complicated, congested and intolerant. Peace.
