Hi folks.
Not sure if anyone has had a similar experience, but here goes.
A friend recently left his E-class AMG (63 plate) at a secure parking facility whilst he went abroad on holiday, I won't mention names. He arrived back today to find a letter from the parking company and another from the Police explaining that his car had been seen driving 'at speed' at a destination near where it was securely parked. The officer who witnessed was not a pursuit driver and requested back up to get the vehicle stopped. Long story short, the car was stopped and the driver who worked for the parking company was summonsed to attend court later this year for driving without due care and attention. He was moving the vehicle legitimately but ragging it in the process.
The parking company, who have a good reputation have written to my friend explaining that all their drivers were self employed and his contract was suspended pending the court result. They have refunded all parking costs and also given the car a mini valet.
My mate is furious that his car has been used this way and is pondering what further action to take. He is thinking along the lines of requesting a service of his car or a set of tyres or both as a means of compensation.

Has anyone has a similar experience, and how was it resolved?

Thanks, Mark.

I considered TWOC but it doesn't fit, the car was being driven from point A to B where cars are short term or long term stored. The issue is the manner and way it has been driven by the employee.

If the car has been damaged then he could claim repair costs otherwise he should move on.

I can't understand what more your friend could wish for? It's unfortunate but the parking firm have been very upfront about it and I can't see how they could appease him any further.

Whilst I appreciate it’s not very helpful to the question posed by the OP, is it just me that will not, under any circumstances, leave my car keys with a parking company when I go away?

Proper long stay isn’t that much of a hassle and isn’t that much more expensive.

A very fast car, being driven fast, while it was fully insured what is the issue, the guy has been suspended from his job and being prosecuted for the driving offences, so what else is there? Some pointless crap about it having a cold engine will be brought up no doubt, despite there being no evidence that A it happened like that and B that it would cause an harm what so ever if it did.

Aside from the fact that the behavior by the driver was inappropriate, I doubt anything else should be done. Ultimately, it's an automatic performance saloon - doubt a short drive at high speed would have caused any damage or require further compensation.

Sadly, it's further proof you cannot trust valets with nice cars though.

So it's OK for a person entrusted with your car to drive it other than sedately? Wow, you are a generous man!

I last used one of these companies in 2004, after I heard my M3 CSL quite a while before I saw it when it was being returned to me at the airport.

Your mate is also greedy.

You mention no damage to the car.

Meet-and-greet is a godsend if you have young kids and is cheaper than long stay.
(For a reason - they rag your pride and joy - which I fully expect, nothing wrong with a good ragging now and again, they check the mileage before and after so they can't go too far.)

As above, no real damage caused to the car, it's a high performance machine, engineered to be driven hard it's entire life.

I would just move on, be glad the tt got caught and is going to get a bking and get on with life..

This! I do airport transfers for a living, the way these drivers treat each and every car is

criminal.

Ragging the car from cold and/or shutting it straight off and not letting the turbos cool down will seriously damage the car. Just because there's nothing visible externally doesn't mean that the fker didn't cause any damage.

I'd go after them with all you've got, e.g. an inspection at an MB dealer and rectifying anything which might have been due to the ragging.

Why not throw in a precautionary engine rebuild as well as new brakes.

This place, honestly.
