Divorce DIY advice, anyone done this?
Discussion
Afternoon all.
It's about time I sorted a divorce out....There isn't any grief, we've been separated for just under 9 years, get on fine separately. I've got another partner, kids are fine, financially, the arrangements have been in place for all this time and all is well.
I don't feel the need to go to a solicitor and have seen several companies that charge a fee and sort the paperwork out, which just leaves the court fee. All in just under £500 I think.
I know for a fact that my ex won't contest it, and as I said earlier it's all fine between us and kids.
Has anyone any pointers, or used any of these services?
Any help gratefully received. I've had a look at some forms and
my nut is proverbially done in!
Thanks in advance.
Mike.

It really is that straightforward. All money/houses/cars/pensions sorted. And yes understandably it has to have a full and final settlement joint signature there. I'll mooch about seeing what's about. From what I can gather court costs are about £400 and I suppose I'm trying to negate he £500 on top for solicitor's fees if it's formality, routine and form fulling out!!

You may as well swallow the hit of £1k though to have the peace of mind of knowing it's all been done properly? If it's hundreds rather than thousands you're saving is it really worth it?silverback mike said:

£400 in court costs! I don't remember paying anything like that a few years back in court fees and mine wasn't as straightforward as yours sounds. rlw said:
Full and final settlement.

my thought process on doing it myself is that if it's purely process and forms. I'm not daft and potentially have the ability to obtain and complete the forms along with dealing with the court then I am tempted to save myself £500 or so...If it's a mysterious voodoo esque black art that no one can do other than a lawyer then so be it

Do the work then get a solicitor to check it for you. Make sure you get pensions dealt with as part of the "full & final" financial settlement otherwise it really will bite you on the arse when she works out in twenty years time that you've got one from when you were married and she hasn't...
I found the Dummies guide to divorce the most helpful when I was going through mine. Especially the Which guide, which seemed to be a collection of Mumsnet posts...
