Not sure how they guessed the speed from this clip.

What annoys me is the journo saying 'terrified passenger', when they clearly know each other (probably great mates) and both agreed on it. Excitable and full of adrenaline doesn't mean someone is 'terrified'!

Well the Police uploaded that video so it's possible they had access to more than what has been shown (e.g. shots of speedo, etc)

I don't suppose it's necessarily essential for there to be a specific speed recorded in a prosecution for Dangerous Driving when the standard of driving shown/filmed is clearly far below that of "an accepted standard expected of a competent and careful driver".

edit: That being said I don't agree with the Judge's assertion that "that man was completely terrorised... in no way was he consenting".

Couldn't he have done that on a track?

Playing up to the camera and to impress and/or frighten a passenger is a bit of a recipe for disaster.

Little more info...

Three clips were shown to the court, the first showed the 49-year-old in the car with a friend as they drove down the B5130 between Huntington and Churton.

His passenger repeatedly asked Randles to stop as he sped along the tight road, at times reaching over 100mph.

Myles Wilson, prosecuting, said special software had been used to determine how fast the car had been going.

The second video faced forwards and showed Randles, this time wearing a helmet, driving along the B4501 near Lake Brenig and hitting a maximum speed of 96.5mph.

A similar final clip showed the Atom reaching 86mph on the A525 Nant y Garth Pass.

I'm sure "unpaid work" was called "community service" in my day. Why the rename?

Possibly by the engine speed and the gear that the car was in.

Easy to measure speed from any reference points on the side of the road.

How many hours did the judge make you do?

Did he do a risk assessment before filming that and uploading it to the Internet?

My thoughts too, put a camera in front of people and they tend to do stupid things that they wouldn't usually

No judges involved. Just an observation.
