Driving Licence Renewal
Discussion
Driving Licence is up in the middle of August so thought i'd get the ball rolling and apply for my new one. On the form it says that you do not need to send original birth certificate or passport away unless your name has changed.
However when applying for my first at 18 I put down my full name including middles names. Ten years on and i've decided that I don't want to be referred to my middle names and i'd rather just have them as initials so - First Name - ABC - Surname.
Now obviously my first name and surname have stayed the same but have been told different things on the middle name to initial question.
Sending away original birth certificate and passport is a bit of a faff considering I haven't a clue where my birth certificate is and secondly If I travel abroad I need my passport.

I'm assuming this is just the photocard which expires next month?
I seem to recall that some Post Offices do a "check documents" service for a few quid? Or they once did (check on the royal mail website for the exact details around this)... They will also take your photo (again, for a few quid) - and they put everything in their internal mail to DVLA.
When I used the PO last year, my new photocard & counterpart were here within a week (you'll only get the new photocard back nowadays, though, as the counterpart is dead). (I didn't change my name, though.)

Doing your bit to improve the image of barristers everywhere I see.
HTH, but could you in turn do your bit to improve the image of internet quizzers everywhere by letting us know if you were just telling us a truly fascinating tale to brighten our weary lives, or were/are asking a question about something to do with speed, plod, or the law. Cheers and all that.imagineifyeswill said:
I may be wrong but I dont think DVLA allow just initials, its got to be your name in full, Ive just checked my licence and my middle name is in full, any other official documents or correspondence I get Just use the initial of my middle name.
My first two Christian names are in full but the third is just an initial. So, OP, you want DVLA to put initials on your driving licence instead of your embarrassing middle names - is that it?
Do you have to show your licence to lots of people? I can't remember the last time mine saw the light of day. Could you keep a finger over the names you don't like when presenting it, or may colour in the bits you don't like?

I want to be one of those celebrities who has an initial or two as a name. LL COOL Tosser or summat. Or maybe a celeb who is so megabling famous that he has just one name. How about "Dick"?
LL Cool J actually stands for Ladies Love Cool James - real name James something or other.Don't tarnish yourself by association.
LL Bellend would be more fitting (for him, not you).

BV likes the "LL" bit and he likes the name "Dick".
"Sausage" has some humorous connotations which will put the ladies at ease.
"LL Sausage Dick" is a winner in my eyes.
Good luck with changing your name by deed poll (and with the DVLA).
If the DVLA don't do initials you are now Mr Ladies Love Sausage Dick. Enjoy.
