Hopefully someone will have prior knowledge about this as the muppets at the court "helpline" aren't answering ( for two days...).

I have a summons for a 12th August court case for a 62mph in a 40 offence.

I'm not disputing it and intend to plead guilty by post, however, to do so I need to send in my licence, amongst other things.

The issue I have is that I go on holiday this weekend for two weeks and will be picking up a hire car for which I will need my licence. I have got the online proof code thing proving I have a full licence, but I'm not sure where I'm going will be set up for that yet ( almost certainly not).

So, what I am wondering is how do I handle that? Send in my guilty plea and a letter explaining why I haven't sent in the licence at this point ( "although I will on my return" etc) or that I have lost it and am applying for a new one?

Simple question, I know, but I just can't get through to the "helpline"

Thanks all

Presumably the point is that if you got banned on 12th you shouldn't be in possession of a clean licence. I know this might not be your scenario but if you were already on 9 points for example ...

I know what you mean but given that the offence happened some months ago if I was a lethal driver then they have already waited some months to get me off the road - perhaps they just wait for holiday season to send them out as a form of further punishment...

Anyway, I finally had someone pick up the phone after hours of trying and they were fine about it - " it's ok - make a note on the paperwork as to why you can't submit the licence at this point and then, if they want to add points/ cut your knackers off after the judgement they will get in touch about two weeks after the case...".

The police officer who stopped me said " bad luck - I could see you weren't going for it, but...". He also put a written recommendation that I be given a course rather than points as " it was clear, sunny and dry conditions on a dual carriageway with virtually no traffic and just green fields either side of the road". However, he also said you're a few mph above where a course is usually recommended so it's unlike my recommendation will work I'm afraid. Ho hum - do the crime/ do the time.

Clean licence for 15 years by the way 😕

I would write to the clerk of the court and explain your circumstances . If you do not send in your licence they will not be able to deal with it.
simply ask for a date that you can attend or be able to submit your license .

I had to send my license off for a 3 point fixed penalty , while in Dubai , I was the named driver on another car so NIP went to them first wrote a covering letter , where the NIP with my details went to my sisters address in my absence ,Fine was paid , Licence sent back.
