Tampering with a number plate
Discussion
Interesting question. Given the extent of the bodging as in the plate you showed making the plate unreadable, it does beg the question whether that is the intention? I suspect the Poloce could use different legislation to pursue an abscence of plates rather than the registration legislation. It may be some legal beagles on here can confirmor otherwise. Certainly I think that is the intention of some of these alterations. I believe the super cars group is discussing this on PH.There may be an answer there!
There are clear rules regarding number plates and how they should be displayed. The police do not seam to bothered on this and there must be thousands of plates where the owners are taking the piss. Its against the law just like speeding and should be treated as such.
I think that the owner should be pulled and be given a £100 fine,if they are caught again its a £250 fine and the third time the number gets confiscated and a £1000 fine.
This may even be a bit soft as with regard to speeding CAMERAS,ANPR cameras, parking tickets etc they are Perverting the course of justice and should be delt with as such.

Not quite fiddling with the numbers, but I've got an off road bike which is road registered and so has a plate on the back. Is a common thing for guys to fit smaller plates in an attempt to stop them breaking so easily of road. I know groups of bikes have been spotted, and the guys with small plates have been fined, but bikes who's plates have "fallen" off just get a warning. I guess you can lose a plate while riding but they don't accidentally shrink, or in this case accidentally gain a few lines and some extra screws.

What if it is vandalism? There's not many who would see a vandalized/damaged plate on their car and then delay their journey until a replacement was sourced.Who would deliberately alter their plate to include greek characters?
