I was silly enough to come round a corner at about 36 in a 30 zone in Scotland, to face 2 coppers standing next to a marked BMW with a speed gun pointed at me.
Will I get a ticket in the post or do they have to pull me in and issue it on the spot?

If you were doing 36 you were probably only doing about 32/33.

No you will not get a ticket.

As far as I know, if its traffic cops beside their car they have to pull you over(?)

Incorrect. They don't have to. They could still send an NIP in the post together with their statement and speed recorded. At 36mph (33mph real speed) this won't happen.

I wouldn't be so sure.

Especially has there is an on-going crack down on speeding and minor driving offences in Scotland.

I will donate £50 if the OP get's an NIP in the post. The officers are not going to go through the hassle of sending out an NIP, writing a statement etc at a later date for 33mph.

They would be stopping people at the time.

99% of the time, you are pulled in and issued a ticket when officers are using a hand held gun. The 1% of the time would be if someone doesn't stop or they were travelling too fast for it to be safe to stand out in front of them. Then the NIP will arrive in the post.

Under those circumstances they would normally pull you , but they could send a NIP through the post .

Given the low speed and , I'm guessing , that you probably lifted off or braked as soon as you saw them , I'd reckon they were waiting for bigger fish to fry and won't bother .

Notwithstanding the current zero tolerance clampdown , I'd think it quite unlikely that anything will come of it .

Only way to be certain is to wait two weeks though .

Towards my ticket? Very kind of you wink
They really are clamping down round here which is why I have a bad feeling about this one!

Were you in a car or on a bike at the time? Could make a difference to whether they would stop you or not?

You should have just stopped and asked! tongue out

Police Scotland are currently throwing £100 fine tickets around like confetti for any minor traffic offence , zero tolerance and the Chief Constable Stephen House appears to have declared war on motorists.

Won't be going to Scotland for my holidays then. S. Ireland seems a much better bet now.

From what I've been told, if you're under 34mph you might get a telling off but not a ticket. Over 34mph and you'll be a potential donator to the Police Scotland Xmas Fund (which is only used for the top brass, never the basic cop). They WILL send out tickets by post and have been known to do so especially to cars going the opposite way while they've stopped another motorist! (Sneaky or what).

Depends on the time of the month - they start getting desperate to meet their targets towards the end of the month so will book you for anything.

They're getting especially nasty about incorrect spacing on number plates apparently - a couple of locals have had theirs taken off them by DVLA as they've been stopped twice before.
