Scotland border to edinburgh

I had a conference call up in scotland last week and noticed an awful lot of fixed cameras on the a1 from entering the scottish border to arriving in edinburgh.
Not really being from this area i am overly paranoid about the cameras and was hoping to clear things up:
When it goes from a single lane to 2 lanes with a reservation why do they have cameras at that crossover? I did wait until it was 2 lanes before accelerating to 70 but part of me was concerned why they are right at the crossover, as though its still 60.
Also if i overtook someone and there was a camera on the other side of the road would that get you or not? As i understand they are rear facing?
Does anyone know the allowance before you get a ticket and does it flash

If the reservation is solid ie a strip of grass, concrete, armco etc not just a white line/hatching then the road is still a dual carriageway and is STILL 70 mph limit.Dual carriageways
A dual carriageway is a road which has a central reservation to separate the carriageways.

The trick is never to use the A1 (or A68 for that matter) to get to Scotchland. There are many better alternatives with no cameras.

I can't think of a single section of the A1 north of Berwick-on-Tweed where there is a camera at "the crossover" between single and dual carriageway. The nearest to that is probably the first one heading north which is about half a mile from the end of the dual section. Really sorry to dig up an OLD thread but does the OP know what the outcome was for this because I think I've just had the same thing!
National speed limit from single carriage way, looked like grass central section had begun so accelerated to 70 thinking it was a dual carriageway, speed camera, 30 meters later its back to single carriageway. The grass was there as an island for people turning off the road!

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I also got potentially got caught out by this camera on the Berwick bypass today when travelling North on the A1.
I went hoofing past the camera at an indicated 75mph only to soon realise it possibly wasn’t a dual carriageway, as it converges back to single carriageway just past the camera with 2 lanes North and 1 lane South.
Does anyone know if this section counts as dual carriageway and did anyone get a ticket for it?
