Two NIPs received - not my cars!
Discussion
Well, one was, and one now is, but not at the time of the alleged offences...
Sold my car in part ex on the 3rd August. Two weeks later receive a NIP for the 10th August. Duly completed and returned with the traders details - nothing more heard - great.
Today, get home from work, get a NIP for my current car (bought on the 3rd August) from the 14th July. Now I have no problems filling in the details of who I bought it from and returning it, BUT, why can't the Police check with the DVLA? Obviously they've had no luck with the owners at the time, and thought they would try the current owner, but why not check the date that I transferred the V5 into my name?
I'm not worried (I have cash withdrawal information, text messages etc from the day of sale), but why oh why can't they just check the little things?!
I know, boring, answered lots of times, just wanted a mini rant

Firstly, probably nothing to do with the police. Or at least a good chance it's not.
Secondly, if they did that with every single NIP they sent out for the very small number of occasions where the car has changed hands in between the offence and the NIP, it would be a big increase in work load.

I get that, I really do. But in this case the previously registered keeper has obviously responded within the time limit saying that they didn't own the car. They (Camera Processing Services (Met Police)) have then had to go back to the DVLA to get the current registered keeper. Would this not have flagged up that I became registered keeper in August, not at the time of the offence?
It's probably all computer driven and not even looked at by a real human, but it would be pretty simple to put this kind of automated check in place. Ho hum, another stamp to pay for!!
