Afternoon!

Bit of a strange one, but wonder if anyone can give me an answer...

My old employer has sent me an invoice for a congestion charge penalty, plus admin fee. This is generally to be expected. I've requested the photo evidence of me driving as I don't really remember entering it, but might of I suppose, it was a few months ago.

As the charge has been paid by the company and they've invoiced would you pay up, other than a small claims court they don't have any teeth as such?

It's not the money, although I'd rather not lose it to a multi-billion pound company that I no longer work for; just seems like it's a bit of a waste to just pay up without an argument.

Just a little bit of sport on a quiet day, but I'd be interested to see what others would do and any reason to pay up without a fight...

If I was sure it wasn't me then I woudln't pay. If I knew full well it was I might try it on but would probably end up paying it.

IANAL but I would guess they would have some recourse via the courts. But over a few hundred quid are the really going to bother?

Unless of course they haven't paid your final month's salary in which case I suspect they will just take it.

The company probably already have proof the car was in your possession during the time of the charge hence why you have received the invoice, unless of course multiple people use the car in one day.
I would just pay it and move on.

If I was in that situation, and I knew it was me, I'd pay up. But then I'm not a total 'See U Next Tuesday' that would screw someone over for teh sake of a few quid.

It's not the money,
I bet if they owed you the same amount for some overtime they hadn't paid you, it would all be about the money wink

Haha, very true!

They've paid my final salary so they have no recourse in that respect.

If they provide a picture to prove it was me then fair enough, just wondered whether anyone would ignore it based on the unlikely event that they go through the courts.

As I say, the company turns over in excess of £1bn so it would be a bit harsh! Whilst the car would be registered to me, unless they can prove I was driving at the time I am assuming they have nothing to go on.

Just a bit of sport while I'm quiet at work smile

Yeah, screw it to the man, then you can tell all your mates what a big man you are that you conned a large company out of a few quid.

Then use the money that you saved to make cards to send to all your mates to celebrate you momentous achievement, maybe talk about it on a forum or two, perhaps even buy a star and then every time you stare at the night sky you can remember how you shirked your responsibility as a decent human being.

Alternatively, man up, and stop wasting everyone's time. The only person you will be really pissing off is the other employee who probably hates their job as much as you did. Hate to be the one who breaks it to you but the company director/shareholders really couldn't give a flying fk about you, and your attempt at insolence.

If the car is registered to you... It will be down to you to provide details of whoever else was driving it at the time.

Especially when that Tuesday may very well come around when it comes to needing a reference.

Blimey, you lot care a lot about my previous employer!

Only wasted my time having a laugh with the accounts clerk and a couple of other old colleagues about it, don't worry no ones upset....yet!

Just interested to know if anyone would actually not pay it on the basis that a small claims would be unlikely?

guess not haha
