Italian speed traps.
Discussion
Has anyone ever got a speeding fine from Italy? I am over here for a roadtrip, and whilst I have been careful, I might have missed a few cameras.
I notice the locals do slow down for them, and I try to follow suit. However I am driving an F Type, and its sometimes very tempting to show the crazy dick head who is an inch off your back bumper what a V6S sounds like with the exhaust flaps open!!
Anyway, the only examples I can find are from folks who hired local cars, and the hire company has passed on details. I am in my own car, so might they pursue me?

I really wouldn't worry. Mrs BC and I must have set off a few of these and when lost and looking for our hotel we will have been recorded in ZTL zones. Never heard a thing.
Of course there are always tales of the bloke in the pub who was visited debt collectors after his trip to Italy.

The rules of Italian driving are simple, if there is a 'crazy d
head' inches from your bumper it is your job to move over and let them go past you as they are clearly wanting to go quicker than you, otherwise they wouldn't be on your arse.
I don't think enforcement is that big a deal over there, I saw one guy in Alfa overtake a carabinieri with all his blues on at about 90-100. Presumably the driver had calculated that if the copper had his blues on, he'd be too busy to worry about him speeding...

Worst "I've got an F Type" thread EVAH.
But why would you brag about that! I could understand if it was a decent car he was bragging about.Who wants a V6 to cruise in?
Italy is the land of 8's and 12's. I think they'd just let you off like if it were just on old Fiat or something like that.

When I lived in Milano in the 70s I had a Fiat 124 Sport with an engine which the Service people said was 'speziale'...I loved it..Italian reg...Scotland sticker on the rear window.
My English mate there Frank Macutkiewicz had a Mini Downton conversion - wide spats and tyres - UK reg - lovely sound - Frank was a Rally enthusiast and it showed in every drive - we took pride in out Italian the Italians but Frank scared the s
t out of me sometimes.
One winter, he and Linda invited us to go skiing in Fopolo..I knew not where it was so agreed to follow them with my wife and kids in the Fiat...no maps - no satnave and not a lot of language.
Through one village out stepped a policeman with the wee red lollipop - stopped me and began to read the charge...I apologised and explained that I was not Italian and had lost my "leader"...wonderful response...
"Scuse Signore - Mini speziale Bianco - two minutes ahead - hurry and you will catch him!"
It happened about half hour later...with the same kind of response from a local Policeman with the red lollipop...
I would not make this up - Frank passed away last year at quite a young age...if he reads Pistonheads up there he might smile at my memory.

I was in Italy this summer for nearly three weeks and didn't worry about the cameras, currently any fines/points don't cross border into the UK however I understand this is going to change in the near future.
Only saw one policeman with a speed gun by the side of the road and atthat time I was a little over the speed limit and he ignored me, a few other cameras but didn't see any flashes.
Oh, and I was in a 560 bhp V8 which regardless of the fact it wasn't a Fezza or anything really interesting did seem to get thumbs up all over the place and questions asked in various petrol stations by people walking past.
The Italians really are proper petrol heads that's for sure

I set an overhead gantry camera off south of Bologna on the way ( late! ) to the ferry terminal at Ancona. That was an indicated 165 mph, and I bricked it all the way to the port, with thoughts of prison and impounded car. Suffice to say, nowt came of it, and I suspect the camera operators simply applauded with shouts of " bravo ", now I know their outlook a bit better.
I've set loads off in both Italy and France over subsequent trips and never heard anything, but I dare say that'll change at some point.

Well they let me out of the country, and there's nothing waiting on the doormat. I did set off the Swiss cameras in the tunnels under Lucerne on the way home however!
If you get a Swiss fine, then pay. Seriously.
k the Swiss. I ignored their E60 windscreen sticker last month with the reasoning that they'd never take me alive. They didn't. However, I did pay £90 for 5 x ham and chips just over the St Bernard pass and I left a big tip because I had absolutely no idea what the exchange rate was.
