Admiral and disputing a car value after written off
Discussion
So Mrs sportstech went killed the zafira last week stuffing up the tail of some old chap who stopped dead in front of her after changing lane as he was 186 years old and lost.
Anyway not very impressed with Admiral been hard work but they have now offered and I think its low. Independent engineer has value it apparently but looking around its not enough to by an equilivant replacement. They won't take adds as proof what are my options if any>?

The value will be based on the FOS guidance that I've posted above.
given the FOS states based on the "guides"We generally assume that the vehicle was in good condition with average mileage – unless we see evidence suggesting otherwise.
Then the policy holder must be able to provide evidence to show examples that are of equal condition and mileage ?

The old saying goes - you pay peanuts, you get "......." (fill in the gap)
Bet you were looking for the rock bottom price & "I'll never crash" this is what happens unfortunately you have a huge fight on your hands, was that £50 worth it?
Don't be a muppet, you don't know his policy.Bet you were looking for the rock bottom price & "I'll never crash" this is what happens unfortunately you have a huge fight on your hands, was that £50 worth it?

Are you also suggesting that you should unnecessarily pay more to a big company in the hopes that if you crash they will be more likely to pay out? I think you'll have a nasty surprise when you crash.

With agreed values I know exactly what I'm getting, actually. Insurance is for peace of mind and to put me back into the position I was in prior to my accident. Because of that I'm not going to skimp on cover which so many people seem to do, how many of you have actually looked through your wording? or bothered to actually look at your Demands & Needs & statement of fact? It's actually laughable reading the complaints nowadays!

Agreed values on mainstream policies? Really?
Who said my policy was mainstream? I was responding to Pebbles who said I wouldn't know what I would receive, which is wrong. I sought out something for peace of mind to match what I own. The point is people have a "Price mentality" and then it quickly switches to a "Sense of entitlement" in the event of a loss. I was simply pointing out, if you choose to live this way this is likely to be the outcome
- Edited to add Pebbles in place of "The Chap" -

I refuse to use Admiral because they are "not a fully comprehensive insurer".Are you also suggesting that you should unnecessarily pay more to a big company in the hopes that if you crash they will be more likely to pay out? I think you'll have a nasty surprise when you crash.
They will not pay out any more than for a bog standard car.....a car with no optional extras or modifications.
They have the nerve to treat optional extras as modifications, and will charge you additional for having them, but will try not to pay out for them when the time comes.
I'd rather (and do) pay the extra £50 for a decent level of cover.

I can't think of anyone who wants to offer agreed value cover on a Zafira (I think that's what the OP had). Feel free to let us know who does though.

Classic cars, absolutely. Cars over £50000 invoice value on a high end policy, definitely. But normal run of the mill cars don't have a market so there simply aren't the products out there.

Yes I can do that but I send open market advertised cars they say as that asking price not selling!??!We generally assume that the vehicle was in good condition with average mileage – unless we see evidence suggesting otherwise.

Yes car has all the options but even to buy a facelift car without the rare options of same age we are talking 20% more than they are offering. They say its independent but just had £500 spent on it full service new cambelt water pump etc. Decided to keep it another year etc.
Not very impressed with them didn't know they were some sort of budget insurer, they are a big player and until last year I had multi car policy and never claimed expect when I was 18 years old donkeys years ago.
My argument is show me a similar car for sale at what their offering. The car isn't that badly damaged but since the chap was claiming I decided to and they said since its over 5 years old we can go straight to salvage. I said ok they then said right get the car off the road don't drive it, its no longer insured! I said great what do we do now¬!
Other joke is I have 10 year NCB no protected and they say actually we only count 5 years so you lose 2 and go to 3 years from 10?!?!?

My friend has insurance for a 12K Porsche & a 14 K Ford Galaxy through a company who is backed by Lloyd's Syndicates as an agreed value (Synergy). These companies simply put minimum premiums in place.
And how much are these minimum premiums? Possibly they could outstrip any difference in value. LoonR1 said:

Super. Must be holier than thou post of the day.
If someone buys a policy that should pay market value then it is not unreasonable that that is what they get. The fact the you and your super mate have bought agreed value policies and then you gloat about it is neither friendly nor helpful.
