My car was recently written off. The low pay out from the insurance due to the age of the car meant it made sense for me to buy it back; the alloys would fetch me more in total.

I was advised the vehicle would need a vehicle identity check. I was wondering if I need that if the car has been sorn'd and will not be going back on road after I've taken the good stuff off of it. I will be taking it to the scrappy.

I asked the insurance person at the time, they stated I would, but I may not have been clear in my question. They might have thought I was planning to get it back on the road.

I asked on the forum as I know there are insurance people here who might be able to give an answer, if not I'll join a queue to call the dvla.

If the car isn't going back on the road it doesn't need any kind of check.

The check is there to try and stop ringers etc.

That's good to know, thanks. I'm assuming it doesn't cause any issue when handing car over to scrappy then? Didn't want to turn up and them not accept it due to lack of VIC. Have never had write off before so unsure of the process.

You will (should) need the V5 to be able to scrap the car.

I have this, it never went off with the vehicle when recovered.

Vic is due to be withdrawn very soon after it was revealed to be a completely useless way to spend 10s of millions of £ that caught out 38 dodgy motors put of 900,000

I can't believe a government implementation could be so wasteful. You must be mistaken.

What i can't believe is they've admitted to it and are going to make a change
