Drivers speeding at nearly 140MPH spotted by Merseyside Poli
Discussion
Okay is this even possible. I mean look at number one on the list. Do the radar guns need checking or the have they got the type of vehicle wrong?

10 A Skoda Yeti at 119MPH on June 20, 2015, at Junction 1 of the M58
That's a pretty decent effort.
Especially since the fastest yeti apparently tops out at 125 and its more likely to be 122ish real world downhill....That's a pretty decent effort.

And how many mistakes can you spot in the Police comment ?
A driver was clocked at an alleged speed of 138mph ... in a Mitsubishi Fuso truck on the M62.
And a second motorist was reportedly caught at the same speed in a Volkswagon Golf on the East Lancs Road.
These were the two fasted recorded speeding offences in the last year in figures revealed by police to the Sunday ECHO. Both drivers were told they faced prosecution.
The statistics are released in response to a request for statistics on the number of drivers allegedly clocking up 100mph or more on our roads in the last 12 months.
Police sent us 58 cases, including 11 at exactly 100mph.
The M58 appears to be a spot where drivers are clocking some dangerously fast speeds.
Police said they had caught a Porsche Panamera going at 134mph, four vehicles going at 122mph and another at 119mph along the M58, which begins at Netherton.
M58 Motorway appears to be a spot where drivers are clocking some dangerously fast speeds
On June 27 and June 20 Merseyside Police served three notices each for drivers allegedly doing three-figure speeds - which would make them the busiest days so far this year for extreme speeding.
The statistics worry police, who say the number of motorists caught speeding is only the tip of the iceberg.
Sgt Paul Mountford, from the Matrix Serious and Organised Crime Roads Policing Department, said: “Speeding drivers are causing or contributing to thousands of collisions, resulting in death, injury and misery to many thousands of Merseyside people.
“We are urging drivers to think about other vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists – to think ‘outside of their box’ when they are driving.
“A speed limit is not a target to aim for. It is often unsafe to drive at a speed limit for many reasons – schools, parked vehicles, pedestrians. Clearly people who drive at speeds well in excess of the speed limit put other road users, pedestrians and themselves at even greater risk of harm. Our officers will show zero tolerance towards those drivers who place others at risk.
“We are putting a huge effort in to make Merseyside a safer place for road users. Alongside enforcement, we are educating offenders and better educating new drivers as well inviting communities to play their part. However, ultimately it is the everyday driver who needs to change and think about their driving.”

Serious and Organised Crime Roads Policing ? Those cuts aren't affecting Job Titles are they. Must be "thousands" of pedestrians and cyclists using the M58 illegally as well, if they are specifically targeting that stretch of road to catch the speeders and protect the innocent! The statistics worry police, who say the number of motorists caught speeding is only the tip of the iceberg.

What bothers me, is so many people automatically linking speeds of over 70mph with it being automatically considered dangerous to do so, with no further context. Think about what you're saying. If it wasn't dangerous, what's the issue?
It's just BS to say it's 'dangerous'. That's just to get the unthinking to buy in to the stupidly low limit set in law. I've driven a great many miles on unrestricted German roads, and always felt safe with most cars doing regularly over 90mph, many 120 plus.sim16v said:
