Back on 1st June, Mrs MW returned a Peugeot 207 to the dealership over problems with the electrics, and exchanged it for a 208.
She received the confirmation from the DVLA that the ownership change was recorded, but after 6 weeks when the VED refund had not been received, Mrs MW called the DVLA, only to be told the registration number did not exist!
I looked up the vehicle and found it WAS still on the database, and showing as taxed until September and MoT'd so I called them back (on the 16th July) and they stated that an "urgent case" would be raised... and we could expect payment to be made in 4 - 6 weeks.
I called back on the 18th August, as a check STILL showed it as taxed, and was again told it would be treated as an urgent case - and payment would be made within 6 weeks.

Today I called again... and they again promised to raise an urgent case file - so I suggested that since the previous urgent cases had not resulted in any action on their part, there was simply no point. I also suggested that were I to be similarly tardy in taxing a vehicle, I would no doubt have been fined by now... which they agreed was correct!

So after FOUR months, what should be my next step? It will soon be time to tax the 208, and I doubt they would wait 5 months for me to pay!
Is there any measure I can take to make them pay interest on the money they owe?

And has anyone else experienced a long delay caused by the current backlog of refunds?

It is now showing as taxed until March, so has now finally been fixed and sold on!!

Are you saying you paid a year in advance and are due a refund of several months?

If so, write to the DVLA, don't phone, and give them 14 days to cough up or you will make a County Court claim against them.

Paid for 6 months on 1st April - car was actually at the dealership from beginning of May, but they only accepted it was unrepairable and came up with the swap on 1st June - just in time to prevent 4 months refund instead of 3! rolleyes

The 208 is tax free - but the three months tax refund would be more use in our bank account than in the DVLA's!
