Right so i was an idiot the other day.

Got zapped by a manned gun doing 54 in a 30 last week, stupid yes but there we go.
Got the nip 2 days later and after looking at the evidence (just to check it was my bike and not cloned etc etc) it was certainly me.
Accepted it was me and returned the form.

Im expecting a court hearing and a ban and its fair kop BUT

Today i get a letter thats states conditional offer of fixed penalty. it says that they are offering 3pts and £100 fine, now im confused as i was doing over the limit to be offered this.

I have of course paid and sent my licence off today. What are the chances this as a normal decision and not an error?
Will they revoke the cofp and send me to court?

Currently licence has no points and passed 9 years ago

If you were doing 56 you would be sent straight to court, so you are just under the limit to be dealt with via FPN.

From what i have been reading 51mph is the cut off from points to a ban?

It does seem rather daft that 101mph on the Motorway has you in court justifying why you should keep your licence but near on double the limit in a 30 is an FPN.

I fully agree and dont think its the normal response and maybe an error.
Im still expecting another letter stating that they have made a cock-up and are going to proceed with court action

I just looked on Pepipoo at the magistrates guidelines for speeding and that has 50 and above in a 30 as court appearance and possible ban.
You're either very lucky or it was a 40 zone.

Nope, at least not down here.

36-42 - Driver awareness course
43-55 - FPN (£100 and three points)
56+ - Court

Of course they are just guidelines, nothing stopping the officer reporting you to court for 36.

As you may see from my thread currently running I got caught at 68 in a 40mph limit on my bike and got a 3 points and a £100 fine.

Just count your lucky stars we got away with it.

No, once the offer is made they can't withdraw it unless you don't comply with it in full within the 28 days of the offer.

You certainly should have been given a court hearing for more than 50mph in a 30mph speed limit but the police don't have to adhere to the guidance. Either they have made a mistake or have altered their policy in variance to the guidance. Either way the matter rests with you until day 28 or you comply with the offer.

They haven't made a mistake it is just a shed load more profitable to get a £100 from any speeding fine than taking the perpetrator to court. My 68 in a 40mph is a case in point. They are just opting for an easy life these days. To be honest it suits me and the OP above as it wasn't that long ago that we would be in real trouble for those speeds !

Most forces follow the ACPO guidance of prosecution for over 50 in a 30, although a few forces didn't sign up. Don't know what happens now ACPO doesn't exist - I'm guessing its replacement will do the same stuff.

I really thought i was in for it and was prepeared to get banned, there was no excuse for my speeding it was just a stupid moment on my behalf.

This will keep me and my motorcycle in check!

i was not aware that a private company set the bar for prosecution by the state , thankfully no longer .thanks for that.

Many people were uncomfortable with ACPO's influence. I wonder if its replacement is any different other than in name?

Not as lucky as if you had run over the camera and destroyed the footage wink

That would of involved crashing into either a police camera van/man with a gun in his hand.
Think the result would of been far worse should i have chosen that option!

I genuinly did not even see a camera man/van anywhere on that road so he must of been hidden behind a wall as the photo evidence caught me from the back of my bike.

There is no need for the police to make themselves visible to drivers.
