I left my car in Tesco Salisbury this afternoon, when I came out a man came up to me said a woman had scrapped all the way down my (6 week old, 2000 mile) frown car trying to park, then got out saw the damage and went and parked elsewhere, she didn't leave a note. Luckily he waited for me and had taken pictures of the damage on her car and her reg as well as witnessing the whole thing.

I've reported to the police and they say it's likely she's committed the offence of Failing to Stop after and accident, what is the likely outcome for her? A massive fine and a st load of points I'm hoping, fking horrid bh.

Can't comment on what will happen, but what a lovely chap to go to all that trouble to help you out.

I know, sat in his car waiting for me to come out. He has taken picture of her backing out of the space having hit my car and then watched her park elsewhere and gone and taken pictures of the damage on her car, what a nice chap!

Time to get a front and rear dashcam with parking mode, more and more people don't give a toss about other peoples hard earned property and more and more people can't drive. Also don't forget you were asleep in the boot at the time and now have a very sore neck

Op, keep on top of the Police. Sounds like plenty of evidence so don't let any laziness creep in!

Sadly in my experience nothing will happen to her. I was hit by a van doing a overtake on a blind bend, new years day and early. Managed to get the company from the logos on the van (from CCTV, it happened so fast and I was showered in glass at the time). The police found the company and driver, their reply to us when asked about what would happen to them for the leaving the scene issue, 'well he's lost his job so we though that was punishment enough' was their reply! Most likely over the limit but hey, he's lost his job so let's not upset him anymore.

Can go either way
sometime people can get away with it by claiming they didn't notice, that certainly looks minor enough for it to sound vaguely plausible, which is all you need for a criminal defence

Until she goes and parks in another space.... A former boss made a bad call and was done for this in the days before camera phones. Cost him 6 points and a good fine.

Why don't you remind the police about Ed Balls £900 5 points and ask them politely to do their job.

Why does he need to? From the sound of the OP the Police are already doing their job.

I was responding to the event of the scenario described by other posters, not the OP, patently.

I am pretty sure you have to report the accident as soon as practicable and in any case within 24 hours - this does not mean you have 24 hours in which to report the accident thou.
