so got home saturday, to a letter from lv saying they hadn't heard from me after my accident with another driver.

now i did have a coming together with another driver back in july, told my insurance, but the other party never claimed.

so phoned this morning and they are saying this happened on the 24th oct, allegedly in my daughters car (car details were not in the letter).

only issue is i haven't driven my daughters car for weeks, certainly never had an accident, and i don't know where they got my name from?

i realise lv will not be part of a scam, but is the lv customer trying something on? has anyone heard of it?

i doubt it could be a whiplash claim as apparently i was reversing out of a car parking space into the side of their car.

obviously the daughter or her boyfriend could have had an accident, but i can't remember them mentioning it, and as she is my step-daughter. she has a different surname to me, as obviously does her boyfriend. me and the boyfriend both have the same first name, but the letter is addressed to me and lv are adamant that was the name given.

can't speak to my daughter as we are both at work, could this be someone giving false details as they know the same model car is on my drive (they live with us). i can't confirm if it is my daughters car they have the reg for as i don't know hers.

i'm quite worried that despite lv going off to delve a little deeper, i'm going to get caught in the middle of something that's nothing to do with me. i am not trying to get anyone out of anything, but I am concerned that this is a punt by lv on behalf of their client as no car details or accident details were in the letter, just the name of their client.

anyone have any insight?

The daughter's boyfriend has bumped the car and knowing or believing that he may not be insured, he gave the driver of the other car your details?

could have maybe got details from the askmid roadside form?

not sure if that provides the name of the policy holder, if so it could be a scam still.

Ask them for more detail, accident location and time, damage then speak to the stepdaughter and boyfriend

ok spoken to the daughter and they did have an accident, they were hit or they hit a hilux when backing out of a car parking space. i have read her the riot act!

daughter is adamant that the boyfriend is insured, wrote his name down on the lady drivers cheque book when they swapped details and that they told their insurers the night it happened.

they knew i had got the letter, but being young and daft never put 2 + 2 together. they assumed it would be from a woman and the claim is from the bloke who i take it insures the car.

the daughter has been advised that they need to get onto their insurers straight away and sort it out, and not assume anything.

i know it's not an excuse, but in mitigation they never thought to question why their insurer had not been in touch etc as they were busy at work etc. i did point out that large insurance companies don't have a message machine for claims, most have a 24hr line as they may need to sort stuff urgently. fk knows who they called or where they left the message. pair of idiots.

i lost sleep over this as i was worried if i'd done something and forgotten it, i wondered if i'd forgotten i had dementia. smile

thanks for the replies
