It was a clear crisp night, empty road and I was traveling my weekly commute of 75 miles of dual carriage way (11 speed cameras in 75 miles!), when I noticed a car up behind keeping up with me at a distance. I was doing around 100mph so I slowed down to 70mph and continued. You guessed it - 1/4 mile at 70mph the blue lights came on and I was sitting in the back of a police car. They had clocked me at top of 102.6mph (narked off I'd broken the ton)
What I would like to know is other people's experiences in similar situations. They said they couldn't give me a ticket there and then and thus the case would go to the local procurator fiscal as I was over 100mph. From other's experience what am I going to get slammed with? Ticket, fine, points, ban wise? I have a clean license and been driving 3.5yrs. I understand there is no excuse for speeding and apologised to the POs - please don't make this a lecture on telling me how to drive. Thanks guys!

I have no experience (luckily) but I've always understood anything 100mph and over is your licence for at least 12 months and a fine. But I know circumstance and conditions do play into these things. Plus I know of a biker caught at 122mph and he got a 52 day ban and a £2500 fine. So I'm guessing he paid extra to have the ban reduced, if that's even possible?

All the best with it regardless.

So the offence was in Scotland?

No experience up there, down here, went to court (104 mph) suited & booted, represented myself and ate large portion of humble pie.
Large fine and five points, was quite a few years ago though.

Good luck.

Thanks for all your replies so far. Yep I was traveling down from Aberdeen to Dundee Scotland.
I'm 20
Full-time student
No dependents - doubt I could argue I 'need' my car but it'll be the longest few weeks/months if I get a banfrown

Not sounding too hopeful then. They did say the road conditions and other road users would be taken into consideration?
Have any of you guys used a solicitors to get out of any car related offences?

Find it very tttish you were booked for 102 on an empty clear road. Don't agree with that at all.

If you would lose your job because of losing your license I have read cases were people have been given 6 points and a bigger fine especially for a first offense, for example if you were a travelling salesman and without your car you couldn't work and had dependants, wife, kid etc

If you have points for speeding already it's a lot tougher.

Best case I would lawyer up if necessary and beg the court for your forgiveness.

It's been a while since I was 'interested' in offences and punishment, but IIRC maximum ban for speeding is 56 days. The fine is weighted on ability to pay, so they would have had a significant income.

Don't drive to the court and prepare for the worst.

When I was in Scottish court I was told "unless you have to take your sick granny to the hospital every day then you're in for a ban"
I was on 9 points and caught doing 38 in a 30 (dual carriageway with motorway crash barriers and a footbridge) in Greenock. 6 month ban for totting up

Nope. There are some guidelines in place but lots of factors come into play with regard to sentencing.

My brother doesn't need any help as he hasn't been caught doing 102mph in Scotland. You, on the other hand, could soon be in a whole world of grief.

Right maybe shouldn't say but here goes. VERY recently my pal was up in court for 103. He was in the exact same situation as yourself. Big straight empty road in Scotland and and just a ballhair over the ton but was on a bike. This was 11 months ago. Since being caught he did his advanced riding course and he also rode the Blood Bike to and from hospitals. He needed his license for his day job that was driving trucks and his license was clean.
He was sentenced (genuinely) last week. License gone. Banned. He has an appointment with some social service for background checks to see whether it's long term or short term.
Sorry fella but he had a stronger case than you and he was still shafted. The overall punishment will cripple him and his family financially which makes you wonder if it's really the right sentence or even fair. A hefty fine and lash of points would have put the wind up him, put something back into the system and at least allowed him to continue paying tax.

No doubt some fanny will be along to say he deserved it.

Aberdeen to Dundee. That'll be the A90 then?

Where exactly were you caught? What time of day was it?
