Garage does work without authorisation
Discussion
You take your car into a main dealer agree £91 diagnosis charge. They state we wont do anything without speaking to you first.
Do get call in the day so late afternoon call and they say they have replaced some parts and will test again the next morning. I have not had a bill yet but were do I stand?

I would say that as you have been billed without authorisation you would not need to pay the fine? However that's up to them.Do get call in the day so late afternoon call and they say they have replaced some parts and will test again the next morning. I have not had a bill yet but were do I stand?
They are only going to charge me the original £91. The workshop controller has the same engine in his car and this fixed it with a software update. Was originally told it was a big job £400-£800 on vauxhall forum. Service guy agreed with that but said it depended on whether all the items needed replacing or just a couple of items.
They have just replaced oil seals on vvt issue.

Sounds like a good mechanic.
Let him get on with it and take him some Christmas beer when you pick up your fixed car.
Think I have allowed the guy one vauxhall forum wide me up as they state its £400 of just parts to sort this know issue. He says he can't see how the seals would solve anything. They have a sticky post for this issue and allegedly the only fix is replace the vvt cambelt pulleys the lot. Let him get on with it and take him some Christmas beer when you pick up your fixed car.
Ive had this happen, they also did work that id already done (full service even though it had had one the previous week). I didn't pay took my keys and documents told them to invoice me if they felt the need but I wouldn't be paying.
It was all bulls
t work, £50 wiper blades + fitting, showing wrong shade of orange bulbs, the usual scammy stuff.

I had something similar a couple of years back with a Peugeot 306 worth next to nothing, they had a look at an oil leak for me and without waiting for authorisation had it in pieces changing the main oil seal! When they called to say what they'd done I pointed out they hadn't asked me if it was ok, the manager apologised and said there would be no charge (just short of £800!) they'd even changed the clutch while it was apart, a total result for me.

suppose if i can get there before 7 and they put up the bollards up i can seize the car back and they would have to pursue me through civil channels for the money. surveyor_101 said:

You didn't give permission for the work to be done. You'll be fine, they would probably write the cost off.

Turns our Vauxhall state remove the solenoid valve filter mesh and re software the car if u have any vvt issues. Apparently in around 50% cases this solves the problem and the thought it would. But no called me after lunch to say I need £596 of parts and 3 hours labour to replace all the cambelt, pulleys etc which what the Vauxhall forums said. You'll be fine, they would probably write the cost off.
