I have made loads of calls on the off chance but drawn a blank every time.
Please only give me a number if you are sure they can help.

I have a TVR Tuscan owned and insured by me in the UK.
I want to insure my son to drive it when we take it Le Mans this year.
My son is 25, lives in Norway, and has held a full clean Norwegian license for 7 years, and currently holds Norwegian Insurance for a car over there.

I have tried my insurance company, short term insurance, moneymaxim, Insuredaily, temp cover.com and many many others.
Surely there is a company that will cover him for 7 days, I don't mind paying for it or changing my current yearly policy to enable a named driver.

Over to you guys.

think you need an insurance broker?

I've had experience before of trying to add a named driver to a policy for a month. The insurance company said they wouldn't do it, as it would appear that I was renting the vehicle out.

I asked if I could add the named driver for the rest of the year, and again they refused.

I then looked around for another policy including the second driver, and found one which was cheaper than my current policy.

When I called my insurance company and said I was cancelling my current policy and explained the reason, they relented and added the named driver.

It might be worth trying something similar.

The main problem is that your son doesn't have a UK driving licence, so even an 'any driver' policy wouldn't cover him.

Would it not be better to try and get your son to extend his own Norwegian policy to cover him for driving another vehicle with consent, albeit with reduced cover?

I dont think one the the "temp cover" type sites will do it.

So if your insurer won't do it you will either

a) change to one that will
b) check if he can drive you car on his Norwegian insurance.

May be tricky

He does have an EEA licence, though, so more-or-less the exact same thing for all intents and purposes.

It isn't an unusual request to add a foreign relative onto the insurance for a period, they just need to have a license that is valid (which he has).

Just tell them they are being 'racist' by not adding him biggrin

As above, if your Insurer refuse to do it then just find one that will and move the Policy rather than trying to find temporary cover.

I have a "Chubb Masterpiece" policy (very expensive) for a fleet of cars which covers any driver, any age, any car (including foreign licences) - obtained through a broker though I assume you can go direct.

It's more help than some of the other stuff posted on here, such as "find one that will cover him and tell your existing insurer to get lost"

Might be worth tackling it via a smaller broker. I highly recommend MSM Insurance based on my experience of dealing with them for my Caterham.

If the son can't get cover from Norway - what are the other options?

Probably none, although I sort out the mess after the crash, not the bit before it smile

Call RK Harrison and talk to them about Hiscox. I'd be surprised if they won't do it; they've done odder things for me in the past. Wallet health warning: this will not be cheap. The cover is excellent, and the claims handling first class, but expect to pay 3 x Direct Line prices.

It's Christmas, so I'd probably send him a festive ditty explaining why he's not getting paid out. Any other time of year and it's a short, sharp eff off smile

Some wit about 3rd party sleigh damage and lack of present insurance?

Probably linked to some fraudulent misrepresentation by some grey haired old bloke pretending to be real when he is purely fictional.
