Insurance claim not settled, what to do next.

Hi,
I'm after some advice from the PH experts. Is was involved in a crash in August this year. I didn't claim on my insurance for damage but did notify them of the accident as it was my fault. The other driver had minor damage to the bumper and wanted to claim, there was also mention of a stiff neck. I am looking to insure a second car so contacted my insurance company to ask for the settlement figure to find out it hasn't been settled. The driver hasn't notified them of the cost of any repairs to their vehicle. My insurer's said they will try and close this asap as having an open claim is pushing the cost up by £300 on the second car. My questions are:

How long until they claim can be closed if he doesn't respond?
Can I request for it to be closed as he hasn't bothered to claim?
Also if the claim is closed and neither party have claimed for damage do I need to notify other insurers of this as technically it's not a claim.

Usually 6 months, but your insurance company would be best to advise you.

You can request it to be closed sure, but i'd be very surprised if they did.

Yes. They usually ask if you have been involved in any accidents or claims in the past x years. You have been involved in an accident and the event is likely documented on a database that other insurance companies will be able to view.
