Parking ticket for parking on the pavement
Discussion
My son got a parking ticket for parking on the pavement which is wide enough for two cars side by side and is generally allowed, however in that occasion there was also a double yellow line. My son thought that the yellow line applied to the road and not to the pavement but the council see it differently.
Could anyone please advise me?
Many thanks

Good for your local council.
Are you sure about the parking being "generally allowed", rather than just not actively enforced?

Where my parents live, the pavements now resemble something from Eastern Europe (I may possible be being unfair to EE) because of the number of people parking their cars on them. Broken tarmac, deep ruts, cracked paving, pools of water...purely because lazy arses have to park their Trojans and Transits as close to their front door as possible. I only wish our Council/parking enforcement was more pro-active.

JuSt to clarify though, parking on pavements is allowed in accordance with the highway code, that states;
1. You can't park on the pavement in London
2. You can't park on pavements where there are yellow lines in place or signs advising
3. If your vehicle is over 7.5 tonne
Personally, I'd prefer no parking on pathways as believe it causes issues for pedestrians, but if the rules dictate it being allowed ...

It's possible that most of the Astra is on private land and therefore had it been marginally more to the right would be legally parked, as the different paving may indicate different ownership. Whether it was legally driven there is a different question.Example of allowable pavement parking in London:

How do you come to your conclusion that parking there is allowable ?https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.4929854,-0.26972...
I only ask as the highway code details parking in London on pavements is not permitted whatsoever, and there seems to be nothing advising to the contrary there.
