tv licensing officer, what a nice chap

Just had a knock at the door, turns out it was a t.v. licensing bloke saying my licence was expired and i hadn't got one that is current, showed him my licence and was surprised as it had expired 2 weeks ago. Anyway offered to pay by card there and then as its just another of those bills that needs to be paid and apologized as i did not realize, thought it was due in march for some reason. In the past i have seen some stuff on youtube with really arsey folk having a pop at them for no good reason. I am not one of those and offered to pay there and then by card, unfortunately they cannot take payments but said dont worry it will come from your account on the 26th jan if that is okay. was always led to believe these folk were assholes, but no. a very nice chap doing his job. probably helped that i was happy to pay right now and admitted it was my fault for not checking the expiry date on my licence as i should have. upshot is , regardless of what i have seen on youtube and posts in p.h. the t.v. guy was a very nice bloke and dealt with the prob like a gent. what a breath of fresh air to find an official with a great attitude

I think they subby it out now to third party companies. A mate of mine does it and he works for CAPITA. He does quite well at it too - i think hes getting £28-30K per year at it, which isnt bad given hes only in his early 20s and was a shop assistant before that.daemon said:

FYI shift work and anti social hours is not uncommon. Says someone who's worked umpteen Xmas days, new years, nights, "evenings"...

Tack on the fact that you revoke the implied common law right of access to your property for the BBC, TV Licensing, CAPITA and agents thereof, and expect them to respond in accordance with their Withdrawal of Implied Rights of Access (WOIRA) policy. This prevents them ever visiting you again, whether on fact finding missions, to 'check if you need a licence or whether you have a TV' or for any other such nonsense.Also mention that you find their constant letters a harassment causing alarm and distress, as their computer generated nonsense purports that you will be taken to court regardless of the fact you are not in need of a licence. Sign off (typed) The Occupier, <address> and you'll get a short letter back acknowledging your wishes. They don't bother you ever again, and it's worked for us at several addresses over the years right up to the present day.

Probably because a very large percentage of people who get all "revoke implied right" on them are lying when they say they don't need a licence...Retroman said:

In my experience it is fine. I don't watch any live tv and my tv is not connected to an aerial of any sort so I do not require a TV licence. I had a letter in the post and filled in the relevant bit saying I don't need a licence and they wrote back to me saying thanks for letting us know, we will contact you again in 2 years to see if your situation is still the same. True enough I haven't heard anything in nearly 2 years now.The people who get hassle are the ones who don't bother to respond to the letters.
Just say 'I don't watch live TV and your implied right of access is denied'
The company they contract out to do these checks around my neck of the woods are the biggest bunch of subhumans I've ever seen.
