DOC on a Classic Policy ?
Discussion
I have three classic policies.
One with Footman James for my Mercedes. The other two are with REIS for my Scirocco and Elise. I can have DOC cover on any of those policies. As things stand, it is on the Elise policy and it costs me £20 per annum. I do have a regular car with a regular policy and that doesn't offer DOC.

No, and I'm gobsmacked! Classic cover normally needs access to an everyday, and that'd be expected to provide the DOC, aiui.
Who's it with?
It was Flux which ties in with all the other comments.Who's it with?
I was a little shocked too !
It had always been over 25, Limited Mileage, only if it's not a daily driver and access required to another vehicle - cheap too !
As an aside I tried a quote through Confused.com for my daily driver and the standard fully comp policy had DOC but on an apparently restricted basis that only covered emergency use...it was sufficiently restricted for me not to buy it but at least the chap I spoke to was honest and upfront about it.
My old Triumph 1300 was on a 12k "limited" classic policy through Lancaster which didn't require it to be a second car and did provide DOC (plus commuting) all for around £100 pa with no no-claims required. When I got my Daf 32 that was also with Lancaster, same benefits, for £90. In fact, on the Daf I change the commuting to business use at no extra cost.
The only downside of either was having to re-start my claims when I moved back to a (relatively) modern estate for carrying capacity.
So, yes, it does happen.

Equity Red Star classic policies have DOC.
I have a policy with them, c/o Lancaster (see the post above) - which includes business cover for no extra cost as well as DOC.Lancaster Insurance seem to enforce the "you must have a main car which isn't the insured car" line a LOT less than most (if not all) classic car insurers, when seeking a quote...

Had a major issue with them in 2008, though; problems around being insured using the VIN to drive an unregistered import to MoTs for a very short period (or the policy would be cancelled, which was not spelt out on the documents received by post) as well as them struggling to get the VIN on the paperwork to failitate registering the car in the UK (they were hamstrung by a ten character limit, and while DVLA wanted the last ten characters of the VIN on the certificate the insurers printed the first ten characters on the certificate...).
Receiving a pdf of a cover note for a completely different car (with said car's owner's details
) by email (as it all went belly up) was a Minus Brucie Bonus
.So yes, DOC is available from these people - but tread carefully in unusual circs
.This is all amazing stuff !
I run a normal euro-box on my "standard" policy with full NCB and DOC plus a commercial vehicle on a separate commercial policy with it's own full NCB.
Never heard of it on anything else.
Does the DOC on the Classic Policy use up the Policyholders mileage allowance via the honesty system ?
Think I'll speak to Lancaster today.
Thank you all for your input.

No he wasn't, he was lying thru his teeth. That may be what they'd like punters to use it for, but it's nowhere in the policy. It's utter nonsense. You cannot draft a policy with vague terms like that. What's an emergency? Sick child to hospital? Sick adult to hospital? Sick cat to vet? How sick can the cat be?One persons emergency is another's I'll deal with it next week. If you have DOC you have DOC. You can choose to use it never, once a year, or daily. Nothing in the contract says otherwise.

My policy says '297 - The mileage of your vehicle during any one period of insurance will not exceed the mileage stated against this endorsement number'.In my case, there is no limit on mileage when using DOC, but you should always check what your policy says (I've never seen one that is different, but you should carefully read any insurance policy in any case).
Another point worth noting is there is no legal definition of a classic car policy, so never assume they are all the same. It is a name used by several insurers to market a particular product that suits the needs of classic car owners. There are a number of things many classic car policies have in common (limited mileage, vehicle must be garaged, policy does not accrue NCB etc.), but some will differ.
