Appliance Life Extinct
Discussion
Relative bought a range cooker from a very well known company which takes it's name from a city on a greek Island and always tells you in it's adverts to 'get ready for...'
Anyway appliance in question has broken, checked the fuse and wiring and all is well. It is well and truly life extinct.
Appliance is 2 years and 9 months old and the owner still has the original receipt.
What is the purchaser entitled to and what is the retailer required under law to offer (if anything).
Some confusing advice between UK and EU interpretation of consumer law.

After finally getting through to customer service helpline they have given me the following advice which may or may not be the correct way to deal with this.
Since we still have the all important invoice they have said that we will have to pay for an independent engineers report stating that it is a part that has failed and send it to them.
They will then decide whether or not to repair or replace it. If they decide against then they won't reimburse for the report costs.

Wikipedia cites 144 of these, and I reckon its one 2/3rds of the way through this list.

After 6 months the onus is on the customer to prove there is a fault. Some retailers will accept the responsibility of ascertaining the fault though and some will not. It appears yours will not so you will have to do it yourself.Since we still have the all important invoice they have said that we will have to pay for an independent engineers report stating that it is a part that has failed and send it to them.

I was thinking Aga so way off...
Find a cooker repairer and they may be able to tell you what has failed and do the report and quote for the repair. If they see it a lot then it suggests it is a manufacturing fault.
How much did the cooker cost originally? The cheaper it was the less time you expect it to last.
