I've just received (23rd Jan) a Parking Charge Notice, for 1st Jan.
It is by Britannia Parking, for parking on private land (owned by Britannia Parking).
It says that driver didn't buy a ticket. Driver DID buy one and put it on dashboard, but no longer has it.
It shows two pictures, one of car entering and one leaving. No other pictures of windscreen or ticket or anything.
The car park uses a machine that required driver to input Reg Number and number of minutes required.
Must have mistyped the Reg Number, as ticket WAS bought and displayed for the period car was parked.
Do not still have the ticket, so can't check it. Sod's law - they normally sit in the centre console for months, but car tidied last week!!
Fine is £50 within 14days, increasing to £85 afterwards.
I'm sure if they checked their system they'd find a ticket issued for a Reg Number very similar to mine (digits transposed or something?) that they don't have entry/exit pictures for - and so they know that Driver made a mistake.
Question: Is it worth appealing?
Question: What happens if I ignore it?
Thanks in advance,
Shentodj

I'd suggest paying it then appealing.

Why pay it then appeal? Once they have his money he stands no chance.

Don't ignore it though.

Dont pay it but you can write back saying you did get a ticket, and so are not liable. Say if they insist on taking it further then you want a full unredacted list of car numbers input from that day so you can identify yours, and a POPLA code so you can take it further

I'd agree with the above stance. If your clear stated case is that you did pay but may have mistyped slightly then to achieve a Court judgement I would expect them to have to provide a record of the day's registrations- Particularly since the 'incorrect' one will have been slightly after your entry time. The law does not reasonably expect people to keep hold of tickets for months in case of such SNAFUs.

The ticket machine should be able to immediately recognise incorrect index numbers and refuse to issue a ticket.

But can't tell if AB65XYZ is wrong when it should be BA65XYZ
Nor recognise that P155 OFF might be taking the mick when input smile

It is not a fine, it is a speculative invoice.
If you want to save the whole cost, put this on pepipoo and get their advice. At all times be honest.
If however you think that shelling out 65 quid or whatever is right up your street, just pay the thing. Personally i would go via pepipoo,.
Some on here decry the site others swear by it. My view is they save motorists more money than they pay.
Its your choice

And dont contact the Parking company until you have words with pepipoo.
The ones to listen to on there are
hcanderson, DancingDad, Gan, and schoolrunmum the more posts the moe reliable they are

Thanks for help so far.

I've subscribed to Pepipoo.com
but when I try to look at Forums or try to follow instructions on how to post first topic, I get and error:

IPS Driver Error
There appears to be an error with the database.
You can try to refresh the page by clicking here

I've tried refreshing and I've tried on 3 seperate days now. Is site working properly for others?#

Appeal it, saying that you did buy a ticket and it was displayed and ask them what evidence they have that a ticket was not displayed.
I would expect either a photo back of your dash or something along the lines of they've checked their database and you reg number wasn't in there. In which case see above advise on asking them for a list around the time as you may have typed it in incorrectly.
