Debris thrown from window - Struck my car
Discussion
Morning Guys
This morning on the M27 W/Bound towards the forest a vehicle in front of me threw some heavy debris out his passenger window which struck my car with quite a thud. It looked like stones or a chunk of glass.
It has caused some scratching on the windscreen (No crack... yet) and a taken some chips of paint off my bonnet. I think he did it deliberately as he didn't seem to like me having a more powerful car and going for the overtake.
What is the best way to go about this? I do have his registration number. Unfortunately my dash cam was unplugged at the time

Without any evidence there's not a lot you can do.This morning on the M27 W/Bound towards the forest a vehicle in front of me threw some heavy debris out his passenger window which struck my car with quite a thud. It looked like stones or a chunk of glass.

Can I fill out a V888 to request his details then write to him with an invoice requesting payment for damages? I'll mention that if payment is not received i'll put a claim in against his insurer. You never know the threat of a claim might make him pay up.
Obviously though is he denies throwing anything from the car, there is not really much I can do.

Still no excuse for tossing something out of the window is it.
Police will take action just as they will when something falls from a truck.
But how do you prove it was something thrown from the vehicle rather than something thrown up from the tyres?Police will take action just as they will when something falls from a truck.
If someone has thrown something at the OP's car, then a crime has been committed.
I had almost EXACTLY the same thing happen to be about 5 years ago, going down the M4 and a guy in a work van in the fast lane hogging with nobody in lanes 1&2, a quick flash of the lights to ask him to move over and he flipped, slammed brakes on, spitting and shouting out of window etc so I slowed down to 50MPH in the slow lane to get away from him and he just stuck in front of me, when he came off at the next slip road, just after the physical road break for the turn off a roof tile came flying out the window and just missed me.
Phoned police and they were great, had to go to station to give statement but they went to the companies HQ, the driver was named and he had a knock on the door by 2 marked police officers and a written warning from him employer.
didn’t press charges as no proof so unlikely of anything coming of it, but you have some proof (the damage) so could be the difference?

That's like saying how do you prove you were mugged by an individual if you got their home address.
If someone has thrown something at the OP's car, then a crime has been committed.
But where is the evidence? Simply saying it happened isn't enough. The OP could pick on any car at random that he happened to be behind and claim that they caused it. What is the damage was pre-existing? If someone has thrown something at the OP's car, then a crime has been committed.

Did anything happen before the overtake to prompt this behaviour?
