Choosing a repairer/Insurance claim
Discussion
So I have done a bit of searching but can't quite find what I am looking for.
So at the weekend, my neighbour drove straight into the front of my Cayman trying to get out of a parking space! Brilliant! Luckily, someone saw him do it and informed me, and subsequently he has admitted liability and informed his insurer. So thats all positive, could have been stuck otherwise!
So now its going through his insurance I would expect to be called to arrange for the repairs. I assume they will opt to go for the cheapest possible option being an insurer, but I guess I have get to dictate where it goes to for repair? Anyone have any experience of that conversation and how you go about informing them where you want to the repairs to be done?
Also as its his insurance not mine, I would also assume they have to provide me with a hire car of a similar standard when they do come and take it away for repair?
Its with Axa, and considering he was perfectly fine to admit he did and wasn't going to contest it, they still want the witness statement from my neighbour who saw it, gives me the impression its going to be a heel dragging experience already... Great times!

Simply tell them where you would like it repairing, if that's Porsche then so be it, they will likely ask you to get a quote for repair.
courtesy car...I'd not expect them provide you with another Cayman or 2 seat sports car at all, especially if you demand repair at a main dealer. Unless there is something for which you need an equivalent car they are likely only going to offer you a car which will allow you to get around.
The simplest answer is pick up the phone and ask them.

Personally, I'd go direct to them. Most insurer's nowadays have specialist teams that are equipped to dealing with third parties directly. You'll be free to take your car to your chosen repairer. They may send out their own engineer to check the quote and that it is in order. They'll provide you a like for like replacement whilst yours is off the road too. All of this will be at no cost to yourself if they accept liability. You won't be asked to pay any excess either.
I drove to work in the snow in early 2009 in my 123d (not easy in itself) and about 200 yds from the office I got hit in the rear at a mini-roundabout.
Could have been worse, it was a work colleague who had a company car!
So I took my car to the local BMW main agent for a quote (Sytner in Ascot) and they introduced a "no win, no fee" company to pursue my claim against my employer's fleet policy!
Seeing as it was a 57 plate and therefore still in warranty I wanted to avoid any potential issues and the claims management firm arranged for me to drop the car at Sytner and at the same time collect a nearly-new 320d rental car.
Returned that at the same time as I collected mine, so happy days for me!
I would be amazed if Porsche didn't have a similar arrangement for referrals!
Mind you I had the rental car for 5/6 days and mine only needed a new rear bumper - car hire charge was more than the repair! Still I wasn't paying, although in a way we all are in our premiums!
Anyway OP that may be an avenue worth exploring.
Hope you get it sorted properly, but at least if you are claiming on the other party's insurance you get to choose where it goes!
